‘Imbewu: The Seed’: Why Kay Sibiya was nervous to take on new role

Sibiya tells Drum Magazine:

“When you’re looking for a role, you look for something challenging because we are so used to being typecast and given the same types of roles.”

“So being thrown into the deep end and having to replace someone is exciting.”

He adds that he’s slightly nervous because fans are not too receptive to someone new taking on an already existing role.

“But I wanted to put myself through that and see what I can offer with what Nkayiso has already done because he has set the bar very high.”

“I just want to give new life to the character and challenge myself.”

HIS VIEWS ON PLAYING NKULULEKO BHENGU

The Wife actor says he can’t offer what Mchunu offered and he doesn’t want to replicate how he brought Nkululeko to life.

“I know what it’s like to be committed, married to the character. I fall in love with the nuances, the gestures, and the characters even before.”

Sibiya adds that he loves how his new character is determined to succeed because he’s driven by will and determination.

“You have people like that in life. Many people have a rag to riches story and sometimes luck and academics get them out but Nkululeko relies on sheer will.”

“From having nothing to fighting to being a shareholder of a multi-billion rand company.” That excites Kay. Without giving out too much, he is excited about the drama and thrill coming up.
