Khanyi Mbau talks about celeb mental health
Since Riky Rick’s passing on Wednesday 23 February this year, many South Africans have taken a deeper look at mental health and depression – something that isn’t spoken about enough in the country.
The rapper’s death left many people reeling and put them on an instant path to understanding mental health and the importance of speaking out and being kind and caring.
Touching on celebrity mental health and the lavish image they often try to keep up with, a Twitter user with the handle @abednego82 shared this tweet:
“One day you guys will realise that celebrities are the weakest amongst us, and there’s little to admire from them. Behind the fake lifestyle, borrowed cars rented houses, and fake riches are sad people who are fighting drug and sex addiction.”
The post caught the eye of socialite and actress Khanyi Mbau who not only agreed but advised fans to check in on celebrities who appear to be struggling.
“I suggest you reach out to celebrities you have identified and speak life unto them, you could be saving lives,” read part of her response to Abednego’s post.

Other celebs also speak out
Khanyi is not the only local celeb who has spoken out about mental health and depression following Riky’s suicide. Other celebs such as Cassper Nyovest, Minnie Dlamini, and Nasty C have also urged people to be more considerate – especially on social media.
