Don Martin began his 22-year career with the Calgary Herald in 1978 as city hall bureau chief, 1988 Winter Olympics bureau head, and civic affairs writer. In 1993, he was sent to Edmonton as the provincial affairs columnist for the newspaper.

In 2018, Kent was given an additional $200,000 in damages after arguing that the previous award was insufficient to compensate for the damage to his reputation.
Martin was hired in 2010 to host CTV’s flagship politics program Power Play. In 2012, he was awarded the Peter Lougheed Award for Public Service in Western Canada by the Public Policy Forum.
