Nick Blakey (born February 27, 2000) is an Australian rules player with the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League (AFL).
Blakey was born in Melbourne to John Blakey, his father (Fitzroy and North Melbourne dual AFL Premiership midfielder). At the age of two, he traveled to Brisbane with his parents before settling in Sydney at the age of six.
Blakey participated in the East Sydney Bulldogs Auskick program and began playing junior football with the club in 2011 at the under 11 level, scoring 19 goals in his maiden season.
Nick was promoted to division 1 for under-13s in 2012, where he scored 20 additional goals. Nick continued to play in division 1 for under-13s during the 2013 season, but scored only six goals the entire year.
Nick also played Under 14s for East Sydney Bulldogs in 2013, scoring 16 goals while still competing in division 1. In 2014, Nick began playing for the under 15s while continuing to play for the under 14s in division 1. He scored 5 goals for the under 14s and 27 goals for the under 15s. Nick played under 17s in his final year of junior football in 2015 at the age of 15. He had 18 goals scored.
Blakey had three possible teams to choose from: North Melbourne, Brisbane Lions, and the Sydney Swans as a member of the Sydney Swans’ Development Academy. Early in 2018, Blakey expressed his desire to play for the Sydney Swans.
The Sydney Swans selected him with the tenth overall choice in the 2018 AFL Draft to match an offer from Greater Western Sydney. Nick Blakey has an attractive height of 1.95 meters and a healthy weight that complements his personality.
