Before leaving the White House on Thursday, Joe Biden made a rare stop to talk with reporters. However, instead of just addressing questions, the vice president berated reporters who inquired about his campaign appearances and abortion restrictions.
The president referred to one reporter as a “child” while advising another to “teach” themselves.
Biden, who was going for rallies in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman, sprinted over to the line of reporters gathered for his departure and yelled over the noise of Marine One while providing choppy responses.
“Today, John Fetterman will campaign with you in Pennsylvania, but there haven’t been that many other candidates campaigning with you —” Weijia Jiang, a reporter for CBS News, began.
Biden interrupted her and leaned forward, shouting above the noise of Marine One, “That’s not true!”
“There have been fifteen,” he insisted. “Count, youngster!
Biden responded “yes” when asked if he would campaign for additional candidates ahead of the November 8 midterm elections.
Biden was then questioned by Pro-life EWTN White House correspondent Owen Jensen if he supported “any restrictions on abortion”
Biden, a devout Catholic, said “Yes, there should be.”
What ought they to be? Jensen advanced.
“The case is Roe v. Wade. Read it, dude! You will be educated,’ declared the president.
The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision did not impose any federal restrictions on abortion, but rather deemed the matter a protected medical decision between a woman and her doctor.
Since Roe v. Wade was rejected by the Supreme Court in June, it is now up to the states to choose their own abortion rules. States have pushed for their own limitations for years.
Thursday, before a meeting with Fetterman in Philadelphia, Biden will speak about infrastructure in Pennsylvania.
Fetterman consistently leads the Republican candidate favored by Trump, Dr. Mehmet Oz, in the polls, but the Democrat may require rescuing after an interview this month that raised fresh questions about his fitness for office following a stroke in May.
With fewer than three weeks until the midterm elections, Biden is on the campaign trail.
Later this month, the president and vice president will return to Pennsylvania to continue showing their support for Democratic candidates in the swing state.
On November 1, Biden will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist in his effort to unseat Republican incumbent Ron DeSantis.
Uncertainty surrounds Biden’s influence on voters in the midterms, as his approval rating hovers in the low 40s and polls consistently indicate that Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction and trust Republicans more than Democrats in Congress to address economic issues such as inflation and unemployment.
Former President Barack Obama is also on the campaign trail this month, aiming to ride on his coattails in the midterm elections.
The 44th president will visit Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan later this month, as well as Nevada on November 1 — exactly one week prior to Election Day.
