Major search for Stena Line ferry suspect who fell overboard

Saturday evening, emergency personnel were dispatched to the Lough neighborhood of Belfast, where they remained this morning.

According to unsubstantiated accounts, a someone has fallen overboard from a Stena Line vessel.

It is suspected that the incident occurred on the 9.30 p.m. Stena Line Super Fast 8 train, which was traveling from Cairnryan to Belfast.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that a woman fell from the ferry in the Lough region of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The extensive search in the Lough region of Belfast, Northern Ireland, began on Saturday evening.

Police have requested that the public avoid the area as rescue efforts continue.

A police spokesperson stated, “Police and other emergency services are currently conducting a search of the area surrounding Belfast Lough.” We have no other information at this time and are advising the public to avoid the area.’

Last night around 10.30 p.m., the Lagan Search & Rescue team stated that it was responding to a callout in the area.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) announced that the rescue operation was still ongoing as of Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the PSNI stated, “Police and other emergency services are conducting a search of Belfast Lough in response to information that a male entered the water on Saturday night, October 29.”

Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCGA) released an update on the ongoing rescue effort this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the MCGA stated, ‘Last night (29 October), HM Coastguard dispatched two RNLI lifeboats from Bangor, pilot launches from the port, the coastguard helicopter based in Prestwick, and the Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team to assist in the search, which also includes the ferry’s own fast rescue craft.

They conducted a thorough search that was suspended in the wee hours of the morning.

“The search has begun this morning (30 October) in response to new information regarding a report of a man going overboard from a ferry en route to Belfast harbor,” the statement reads.

“Bangor, Larne, and Port Muck coastguard rescue teams as well as Donaghadee and Larne RNLI lifeboats and Lowland Search and Rescue teams are continuing the search that resumed at 8 a.m.”
