On the 31st day of protests, Just Stop Oil eco-extremists have splattered orange paint on four buildings in downtown London.
At 8.30 a.m., six eco-activists used fire extinguishers to spray paint on the Home Office, the MI5 building, The Bank of England, and the News Corp headquarters at London Bridge.
Government, security, finance, and the media were selected to represent the pillars that sustain and preserve the power of the fossil fuel economy, according to the group.
A number of individuals have now been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, according to the Metropolitan Police.
A spokeswoman for Just Stop Oil stated, ‘We will not stand by as everything we love is destroyed, vulnerable people go hungry, and fossil fuel businesses and the wealthy benefit from our pain.
The era of fossil fuels should have ended decades ago, but fossil fuel interests continue to poison our politics, government, and media, as they have for decades.
“How else can you explain a government that disregards obvious, no-brainer initiatives such as renewable energy, insulation, and public transportation, which would reduce our energy bills and carbon emissions, in favor of corrupt schemes to drill for uneconomic oil and gas at the cost of taxpayers?
“Well, we’re done pleading. We are moving to halt the production of additional oil and gas because it is the moral thing to do. We have every right under British law as citizens and parents to protect ourselves and our loved ones. The government has the authority to immediately eliminate the interruption by halting the issuance of new oil and gas licenses and permits.”
Just Stop Oil is requesting that all new oil and gas permits and licenses be halted.
Yesterday, the group sat in two lanes in east London to obstruct traffic, leading a lady to remove one of the eco-activists from the roads while angry drivers honked their horns/
On Sunday at 12:15 p.m., disruptive activists were observed sitting on Commercial Street and Hanbury Street near Spitalfields Market in Whitechapel.
Before police arrived, drivers aggressively remonstrated with them and attempted to move them out of the path, and one mother yelled that she had a sick child in her car.
One man was observed kicking the Just Stop Oil banner away in anger before narrowly avoiding them by driving past the blockade.
Just Stop Oil tweeted: “As of 12:15 p.m. today, 15 supporters of Just Stop Oil have blocked Commercial Street near Spitalfields Market in London.” They are demanding that all new oil and gas licenses be halted.’
In a statement released on Friday, Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Matt Twisty asked individuals not to take the law into their own hands and ‘actively intervene’ to move demonstrators.
Since October 1, the force has detained 651 individuals in response to Just Stop Oil protests, requiring more than 7,900 officer shifts.
