Rand Water has declared that water restrictions will be lifted immediately.
The reservoir levels in the Rand Water systems have stabilized, climbing from 30% to over 60% as a result of the increased water demand caused by high temperatures and consequent limitations.
“The stabilization of the systems, aided by good rainfall, has been the result of a coordinated effort by Rand Water and the three metropolitan areas,” Rand Water stated.
In cooperation with the metropolitan areas, a concept has been decided upon that will ensure water management measures remain in place throughout the upcoming months to maintain system stability.
“Through these coordinated efforts, metros have been able to minimize usage and successfully manage their own systems. Therefore, reducing consumption and repairing leaks will become the norm.
“Rand Water would like to thank the metropolitan areas and their residents for their cooperation at this time and hopes that this watershed moment will lead to the permanent prudent use of portable water,” Rand Water said.
