Dr Singh said the ‘racist’ joke was made by a guest presenter rather than the host, Hugh Dennis
Dr. Singh stated that the “racist” remark was made by a guest host and not the show’s host, Hugh Dennis.
After the occasion, Dr. Singh released an open letter to the British Curry Awards in which he said that he was not the only one who felt uneasy.
He stated, ‘It was an honor and privilege to be invited as a guest to tonight’s British Curry Awards. First, I’d want to applaud this outstanding organization for its efforts to honor our Asian community.
However, when the emcee is white, the whole judging panel is white, and more than 90 percent of the artists onstage are white, are we accurately reflecting our community? And to top it off, we’re telling a racist joke on stage and auctioning off a work by Winston Churchill, whose connection with India (and Bengalis in particular) is problematic?
“We are superior than this.” We are a great people. We have accomplished so much and have so much more to give. Let’s do better together.’
In the caption, he wrote: “I am unable to remain silent… Sincerely, @BritCurryAwards Please, let’s discuss this. I’m not berating you because I know you have good intentions and are putting out your best effort. And you’ve raised a tremendous amount for charity. However, we are superior to this.
