Yesterday, as an Arctic chill enveloped Britain, thousands of classrooms were closed and youngsters were assigned to work remotely.
Hundreds of schools are closed or have delayed start times on Tuesday to ensure that students and staff can arrive safely during daylight hours.
The Met Office has issued a snow and ice warning for northern Scotland and northeast England from Tuesday at midnight until Thursday at noon.
Until Tuesday at 11 a.m., there is also an ice warning for much of the South East, including London and Brighton.
Oli Claydon, a spokesperson for the Met Office, stated that there will be substantial snowfall in certain areas on Tuesday.

Sunday, the family of a 10-year-old kid who died while attempting to save three children who had fallen through ice into a lake described themselves as “devastated” by his death.
The boy, identified locally as Jack Johnson, ‘run and attempted to save’ the other children, who he did not know and who are all believed to be from the same family, according to a Facebook post by his aunt Charlotte McIlmurray.

McIlmurray referred to the death of Jack and the other boys as a “nightmare from which two families cannot awaken,” adding that “the anguish is immeasurable,” but that it would be “a million times worse” for the other family.
Another relative who chose to stay unnamed told The Telegraph, “Today has been the most tragic day in our family’s history.”
Monday evening, the saddened community of Solihull gathered in Babbs Mill Park to pay respect to the little lads.
