    By Stephen Adeleye

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has described the new Attah Igala, Matthew Opaluwa as a man of impeccable character who has been worthily selected in conformity with traditions, equity and fairness.

Bello said this on Friday in Idah when he visited the Attah at his palace before the official installation and presentation of Staff of Office.

Bello commended the hitch free process that saw the selection of Opaluwa as Attah of Igala, adding that the event would also be hitch free as the people were happy with his selection.

“For a hitch-free process that culminated into the selection of Attah Igala that we have today, we appreciated God Almighty.

“He is of impeccable character and he is a fulfilled personality, highly respected within his domain, in the country and across the world, we are proud of him.

“We welcome each and everyone of us to this historic event and I am confident that it is going to be a hitch free event and our return back to our destinations will be a hitch-free event also,” Bello said.

Responding, the Attah Igala thanked Bello for ensuring fairness, equity and due process was put in play in the selection process. Ghana

The Attah Igala pledged to work with the governor for the good of the people and the state.

“I greet you and I thank you for your presence here today. Where I am here today, if my governor say I will not be here today, I will not be.

“I always pray to God to put me in the position where I can act my service. Haven given me this opportunity, I will not disappoint you and my people.

“I will work with you and for my people,” the Attah said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in accordance with tradition, the governor after his visit to the place, he walked with the Attah to the Civic center, which was venue for the coronation.

  • Don’t be willing tools for do-or-die politicians – Buratai advises youths

    By Sumaila Ogbaje

The Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has advised Nigerian youths not let themselves be used as willing tools by do-or-die politicians who want to stir up trouble in their communities.

Buratai gave the advice in his Message to Nigerian Youths, titled, “Dynamism in Politics and Nigeria’s Founding Fathers”, posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday.

He challenged them to instead, embrace the tenets of political dynamism and root out every factor contributing to the democracy deficit in Nigeria, such as voter apathy, ballot snatching, looting, arson, and the likes.

According to him, youths constitute a large percentage of our voting and working population and are also going to be the number one population block that will suffer the consequences of bad governance and incompetent leaders in the future.

“Therefore, you must do everything to safeguard your future survival and welfare in mind. Get actively involved in the democratic process by joining a political party and electing those who will lead you. Remember that voting is a civic duty expected of every Nigerian,” he said.

The former Chief of Army Staff said he spent his entire service life defending the nation and democracy because of his conviction that the political system is most conducive to peace, sustainable development, rule of law, and respect for human rights.

He said that Nigeria’s 22 years of uninterrupted democracy is worth celebrating, saying that elections devoid of integrity could not bring legitimacy to the winners, security to the losers, or public confidence in their leaders and institutions.

This, according to him, weakens polities by encouraging disaffected groups to seek out less constructive outlets for their discontent, saying some people feel that there is no need to commend the Nigerian democratic project because of this challenge associated with all nascent democracies.

“I respectfully disagree. We are evolving, and as you can see, the system is improving daily as a result of our leaders’ periodic enhancements to the democratic system.

“For instance, the 2022 Electoral Act which the President, Commander-in-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari just signed into law, is a factor that will undoubtedly improve the transparency and acceptability of the country’s future elections and promote democratic governance.

“Democracy remains a universal aspiration because it actually delivers.

“For example, of the 20 countries with highest levels of human development as measured by the UN’s human development index, 19 are liberal democracies.

“Among the top 40, 36 are liberal democracies. And even the citizens of poorer democracies live, on average, nine years longer than citizens of poor autocracies, because they have better access to health and education.

“Democracies are also less vulnerable to famines and conflicts.

“It was the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, who said, “Man is, by nature, a political animal.” It means that a man is born, lives, and dies as a member of a community, and the affairs of that community are therefore his and vice-versa.

“This is why since my transition back to civilian life from the Army, I have continued to participate in every civic activity I could to promote peace and strengthen our democracy. It is the reason I decided to send this message to all Nigerian youths,” he said.

Buratai also urged Nigerians youths to take the critical issues of participation and a vibrant democratic system in Nigeria as sacrosanct, and embrace what he termed political dynamism.

He defined political dynamism as vigorous political activity that is geared towards progress, and strength in the polity usually characterizlsed by patriotism, service to the fatherland, and youth inclusivity.

According to him, youth can be a creative force, a dynamic source of innovations, and they have undoubtedly, throughout history, participated, contributed, and even catalysed important changes in political systems, power-sharing dynamics, and economic opportunities.

“However, young people also face poverty, barriers to education, multiple forms of discrimination, and limited employment prospects and opportunities.

“This is a global challenge although it differs across countries, and it is why the youth must take the issue of electing their leaders very seriously,” he said.

Buratai hailed the dynamism exhibited by the founding fathers such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello and Obafemi Awolowo and offering an inclusive impression that all the regions had a say in the formation of the country.

He said that President Buhari had laid a foundation for a new Nigeria, adding that he had kept faith with his vision and principles in spite the myriad of challenges.

He urged youths to carry the vision and principles beyond the current administration and protect the legacies for a greater Nigeria and a formidable future generations. (NAN)

    [Verse 1: Camila Cabello]
You said you hated the ocean, but you’re surfin’ now
I said I’d love you for life, but I just sold our house
We were kids at the start, I guess we’re grown-ups now, mmm
Couldn’t ever imagine even havin’ doubts
But not everything works out, no

    [Pre-Chorus: Camila Cabello]
Now I’m out dancin’ with strangers
    You could be casually datin’
Damn, it’s all changin’ so fast

    [Chorus: Camila Cabello]
    Así e’ la vida, sí
    Yeah, that’s just life, baby
Yeah, love came around and it knocked me down
But I’m back on my feet
    Así e’ la vida, sí
    Yeah, that’s just life, baby
I was barely standin’, but now I’m dancin’
    He’s all over me (Goza)

    [Post-Chorus: Camila Cabello]
    Ba-da, bam-bam-bam-bam, bam-bam
    Ba-da, bam-bam-bam-bam, bam-bam
    Ba-da, bam-bam-bam-bam, bam-bam

    [Verse 2: Ed Sheeran]
It’s been a hell of a year, thank God we made it out
Yeah, we were ridin’ a wave and trying not to drown
And on the surface, I held it together
But underneath, I sorta came unwound
Where would I be? You’re all that I need
My world, baby, you hold me down
    You always hold me down

[Pre-Chorus: Ed Sheeran, Ed Sheeran & Camila Cabello]

    Every mistake turns to moments
    Wouldn’t take anything back

[Chorus: Both, Camila Cabello & Ed Sheeran]
Así e’ la vida, sí (Así e’)
    Yeah, that’s just life, baby
Yeah, love came around and it knocked me down

    Today’s lotto winning numbers

A single DAILY LOTTO play will cost you R3.00 vat inclusive.

    How to play daily lotto

When buying daily lotto tickets online, there might be an additional charge. Always check the terms and conditions.

Winners are to note that if numbers published are different from the number in the original national lottery database, the number in the national lottery database will prevail.

Tips on How to Win the Lottery

Here are nine useful suggestions for increasing your lottery winnings chances

Buy more tickets. But you’ll spend more money and you may still not win any of them. But at least 10 chances of winning is obviously greater than just 1 chance by 10. And what you can be certain of is that if any of them wins, you’ll recover your money back.

Form a lottery syndicate or group where you all play as one. This means you get more tickets and lottery numbers which will result to a higher chances of winning. Imagine having a group of 100 people who buy 10 tickets each, that’s 1000 tickets, 1000 chances of winning. BUT becareful with this idea, as people are not trust worthy. The eventual winner of the lottery may betray all of you. So only join groups with people you can trust with your life. And also if you win, don’t betray others.

Don’t choose consecutive numbers. For example, suppose you’re playing a lottery with five winning numbers and you have till number 55 to choose from. The total number must be between 104 and 176. According to studies, approximately 70% of lottery winnings fall into this category.

Don’t choose a number that falls in the same number group or ending with a similar digit. Although, there is a possibility that you may win, but the probability is very low.

Look for more unpopular games played at odd times. Don’t go for lottery games that always have a winner try to explore other unpopular games. Most likely, people will all go to that lottery game, so your chance of winning is lesser. Go to the less popular, with lesser game player, so your odd of winning is higher.

Some people tend to play lotto based from the numbers of their birthday, or the birthday of a family member. If this happens, you will usually get more numbers from 1 to 31, as this corresponds to the days in the calendar method. If you choose numbers above 31, this may not increase your chance of winning but it can boost your probability of not sharing the prize with anyone.

Keep in mind that every number in the lottery has an equal probability of being chosen as the winning number. There is no software that could predict the exact winning number. But you can increase your chance of not splitting the jackpot price if you use the not so common number.

Play the right games. There are many kinds of lottery games that you could play. If you join the national lottery draw, there is much broader number pool as compared with a local or state lottery. In a local lottery, the odd of winning is higher compared with a nationwide lottery.

  • Yahaya Bello presents staff of office to new Attah Igala

    By Stephen Adeleye

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has presented the staff of office to the new Attah Igala, Mattew Opaluwa, describing the process as one that conformed to tradition, equity and fairness.

Bello presented the staff of office to the new Attah Igala during the coronation event on Friday in Idah, Kogi.

The governor said that the process of installation was a departure from previous practices which was marred with crises, violence and destruction of lives and properties.

Bello said that the mammoth crowd from within and outside the Igala Kingdom also proved that the people were satisfied with the selection of their new King.

“There is now total departure from certain practices which made the appointment of traditional rulers in Kogi filled with crises, violence and disruption of lives and properties in the past.

“My new direction administration has ushered in a different narrative of celebrations and felicitations.

“To do justice to the tradition and will of the people, we knew transparency was the only way we could guarantee tranquility and harmony in Igala Kingdom after a new Attah has been selected.

“So, we acted with fairness and total respect for the people, tradition, and institutions of Igala throughout the process. I know that by the grace of God we have achieved the peaceful change of baton.

“On Aug. 27, 2020 the past Attah Igala, Micheal Ameh-Oboni joined his ancestors and the stool became vacant.

“Traditionally, the Attah stool rotates among the four ruling houses. The emergence of his royal majesty Mattew Opaluwa as the Attah Igala respects the rotation principle among this ruling houses.

“I have discovered by my own that leadership and political will travel hand in hand when the objective is good governance.

“The era of imposition of traditional rulers on any community ended when I came into offices and I have abundant political will to keep it so.

“I am gratified to see the mammoth crowd which has turned out today to witness this occasion. It is clear evidence that his Royal Majesty enjoys wide acceptance and support from his people,” Bello said.

Bello also urged the Attah Igala to use his revered stool to ensure the peace, progress and development of the Igala Kingdom.

He also advised the newly installed King to resist any form of temptation to politicise his ancestral stool, and oppression of any person or tribe.

The Attah of Igala in his response appreciated the governor who under his leadership ensured that due process was followed in the process of selecting him to ascend the throne of his fore- fathers.

He also appreciated his brothers, who offered a hand of fellowship to him after he was chosen, promising to work with them for the good of the people, the Igala Kingdom and the state.

“I thank the people of the great and ancient kingdom of Igala and everyone who came from far and wide to honor this occasion.

“I thank the governor for recognising the recommendations of the ruling house and Kingmaker which restored us to the throne of our fore fathers after 103 years.

“It was a long and contentious race and I and my brothers of the four ruling houses maintained decorum, I appreciate them.

“We will all work together for the good of our people, the peace, progress of Igala Kingdom, Kogi State and Nigeria,” the Attah Igala said.

Sultan of Sokoto, Mujammadu Abubakar congratulated the Attah of Igala, admonishing him to seek God’s guidance for a peaceful and successful reign.

Abubakar told the Attah Igala that, now more than ever, with the situation of the country, he had a big role to play in fostering peace, unity and the progress of his people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that present at the coronation were the Olu of Warri, Etsu Nupe, Tor Tiv, Aku-Uka Wukari, amongst others. (NAN)
