  • LASG, Content Warehouse Unveil Kampus Stars Reality Show – Winner takes N10m, Car

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in conjunction with a private company, Content Warehouse Limited, has unveiled an eight-week creativity challenge that will produce musical stars with the winner going home with the star prize of N10M, a brand new car and other gift items.

The initiative tagged: “Kampus Stars” is designed to harness the music potentials in students of Higher Institutions in Lagos State as part of the government’s plans to productively engage the youths and redirect their attention into profitable activities.

Speaking at a Press Conference and the unveiling of the Kampus Stars Reality show in Alausa Ikeja, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, said the initiative will further build on the inherent creativity of the youths while also creating an economy that provides more jobs and opportunities for its young population.

She informed students from the various higher institutions of learning at the event that apart from the star prize winner, other valuable prizes would be given to contestants with impressive performances as determined by the panel of judges.

The Commissioner averred that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was determined to create sustainable growth for the youths of Lagos State in the area of tourism, entertainment, arts and culture as well as through educational empowerment and skills acquisition in order to transform youth restiveness into a productive venture.

The contest, according to her, will create a culture of reproducing creative talents who will continue to meet the entertainment demands of fun-loving members of the public and bridge identified gaps in the creative industry.

In her words: “With the unveiling of Lagos Kampus Stars, we will be celebrating the versatility of the various higher institutions in Lagos State and the abundance of creativity and talents in our youths through this programme”.

The Commissioner, therefore, urged all the participants to put in their best and prove that the youths of Lagos State are creative, purpose-driven and determined to excel at all times.

Earlier, the Special Adviser, Mr. Solomon Bonu made it known that Governor Sanwo-Olu desires that the youth be gainfully engaged and kept off social vices.

He said: “It is the wish of Mr. Governor that the youths convert all their inexhaustibility into useful and rewarding activities such as Kampus Stars.

During the #EndSARS protest, the catalyst that metamorphosed the protest was music. The majority of our youths are music-oriented, this is why it is necessary for the State government to key into an initiative like this that will channel the musical interest of the youth productively”, Bonu added.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Princess Adenike Adedoyin-Ajayi, said the programme is all about youths, adding that it is part of the government’s plans to unveil the hidden potentials in youths, train them to become professional and also empower them.

Her words: “As we all know that the youth are our future, it’s imperative to create a platform where they will be able to showcase their talent and when we invest in them, there is a possibility for a bright future”.

The Kampus Stars project leader, Ralph Nwadike, expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his outstanding support, the interest shown and as well helping the youths to push their dreams.

He charged the participants to be resolute in their career progression as this initiative will go long way in exposing them to the world and making them compete better without fear.

Explaining the rationale behind the Kampus Stars project, the Head of the Technical Team for the show, Ace Film Director and Producer, Mr. Tade Ogidan revealed that the contestants for the Kampus Star reality show would be tasked to promote the aesthetic splendour of Lagos State through the use of music as an art.

He said that the participants would have the opportunity to interact with veterans in the field of film production and also draw inspiration from their wealth of experience.

  • Multiple romances, friendships and alliances this week on BBMzansi

Rule number one to having a strategy in Biggie’s House; make sure that you aren’t being found out. The gag is, all the Housemates are in this to win it. They are playing a game. But if yours is obvious, you run the risk of having a target on your back while being bested at your own trick. And following Sunday night’s shocking Double Eviction, we’re seeing covers being blown on even the most carefully crafted games in the House.

Gash1 is coming under fire for the way he’s moving. Vyno’s authenticity is being called into question. Mphowabadimo and Nthabii are plotting news ways to navigate the landscape, and the gents have assembled to figure out who could be next on the chopping block. It’s game on!

First of all, Vyno has shaken the tables. What many thought to be the strongest relationship in the House; Vyno and Terry, seems to be crumbling. The pair, who hit it off the second Vyno arrived a week later in the House, are being tested. It looked authentic at first; their public displays of affection and talks of a future outside the House inspired much awe. That was until Vyno switched lanes and told Yoli that she is, in fact, the girl he’s into. He fessed up to that fact that hooking up with Terry is really part of his strategic roadmap to the finish line. Terry is the ‘baddie’ in the House, winning challenges and influencing many of the decisions. Aligning is a smart move already.

Less tactical is how Vyno took this information to Yoli. She went on to tell Gash1, whom she fancies. It appears her motives were genuine – she likes Gash1 and considers him someone she’d like to have by her side in the House. But the current Head of House is playing the game, and he seems to be playing it hard. Fresh off being accused of strategically sowing divisions in the House as a bid to scatter alliances, Gash1 one upped himself by bringing this tea to Vyno. In doing so, he betrayed Yoli’s confidence.

After finding out Gash1 had done thing, Yoli flew into a rage. Despite Gash1’s best efforts to apologise and pacify her, she said she can no longer tell whether their relationship is genuine, or another thread in Gash1’s elaborate game. He assured her, to little avail, that she’s straight with her. They are in this together. But the milk has been spilled; Yoli joins a number of Housemates who are weary of Gash1’s shrewd display.

The big question is, who is fooling who? Vyno shooting his shot with Yoli raises many questions about the game he is playing. Norman said he feels like the move was merely a means to make him more relevant. Dating Terry and then approaching Yoli makes him a big conversation in the House. There’s no telling yet what his intentions were. But one thing is clear, he doesn’t see much of a future in his relationship with Terry.

In a chat with Themba, he admitted that he can’t guarantee he’d continue seeing Terry after leaving the House. For one, she’s not really his type. And, he added, she seems more into him than he is into her. If the relationship continues, it’s likely he would be doing it to move forward in the House. That will, however, depend on whether or not Terry finds out what he’s been saying about her.

The gloves are off; a cash prize of R2 million is on the table. It’s time to play. It would seem, however, a couple of hearts might be broken in the process.

  • Zino was the youngest Housemate, and the first 2000 to ever live in a Big Brother Mzansi House

Much was made about the fact that Zino was the youngest Housemate, and the first 2000 to ever live in a Big Brother Mzansi House. His time in the House started like any other, however: a grand entrance onto a stage, a quick interview with Lawrence and then a walk through those iconic doors.

It became apparent very early in the game that Zino was one of the quieter Housemates. Whether as a result of his age or simply his natural temperament, many of the Housemates would refer to him as their “little brother”.

It was his kind personality that resulted in many of the Housemates opening up to him, and his general lack of judgement was clearly a quality that made people relax around him. When he was Evicted, their surprise was palpable.

Fans were also quick to react. Within moments of the announcement that he had been Evicted from the House, social media was populated with messages of support, with “Zino” making it to the Top 3 trends in South Africa.

Zino was not, however, the only Housemate to be shown the door, last night. B.U.’s agony was stretched out over the entire Live Show, and he was clearly surprised when he heard that he had not received the votes necessary to survive Eviction. He made a mark early in the game when he introduced himself as the “Zulu Vegan”.

His interest in Venus became a talking point on social media and in the House, and it caused him more than just a few hassles, with Acacia reacting very badly to the fact that her affection for B.U. was clearly unrequited.

Despite his apparently Zen-like calm, B.U. was no stranger to confrontation. On his very last night in the House – following the Saturday Night Party – he found himself embroiled in an argument about cake, of all things.

B.U.’s fans on social media were quick to express their shock at his Eviction, with the phrase “Not B.U.” trending in South Africa. Clearly, there weren’t enough of those fans to keep him in the game, but his popularity is certainly not in doubt.

  • NNPC expects 2.3 billion litres of PMS to stabilise distribution, stop scarcity

After recalling a faulty product imported into the country last week, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited began the week by assuring Nigerians that distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) will soon return to normal.

Adetunji Adeyemi, the NNPC Group Executive Director (GED) Downstream, issued the assurance at a briefing in Abuja, saying that concerted efforts were being made to resolve the petrol supply challenges.

According to Adeyemi, the business expects to sell over 2.3 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the country by the end of February, with over 1 billion litres now on the market.
He assured that the product being dispensed at various filling stations in the country was safe, as the expected 2.3 billion litres would restore the sufficiency level above the national target of 30 days.

Adeyemi explained that in order to accelerate PMS distribution across the country, the company had commenced 24 hours’ operations at its depots and retail outlets.

He disclosed that NNPC had constituted a monitoring team, with the support of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other security agencies to ensure smooth distribution of PMS nationwide.

In the meantime, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Rep. Abdullahi Gaya, assured Nigerians that his Committee would handle companies who imported methanol-blended Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country.

A statement by Mr Garba Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC Limited, quoted Gaya as responding to a question from one of the committee members in that regard.

Gaya spoke during an engagement with Management of the NNPC organised by his committee on the current fuel situation in the country.

While briefing the committee, the NNPC CEO/GMD, Malam Mele Kyari, explained that the situation came about as a result of the discovery of methanol in the PMS cargoes shipped to Nigeria under the subsisting commercial contract operated by NNPC and its partners.

According to Kyari, tests did not reveal methanol presence because Nigeria’s specifications do not include methanol.

“We are a law-abiding company. There is no way we could have known about the methanol presence.

“The only way we could have known about it is if our suppliers, in good faith, made the disclosure to us.

“In this particular instance, the discovery was made by our inspection agents who noticed the emulsification at the filling stations and brought it to our attention.

“Subsequent investigation revealed that the four cargoes which are all from the same source also contained methanol-blended PMS,” Kyari said.

He said NNPC moved swiftly to trace all the affected products and quarantine same.

While assuring the Committee and Nigerians that measures have been put in place to accelerate fuel supply and distribution in the country, the NNPC CEO said the company had placed significant orders of over 2.1billion liters of methanol-free PMS to ensure the queues vanish in few days.

He pledged that NNPC would co-operate with the committee and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to get to the root of the matter.

The NNPC CEO also expressed deep empathy with Nigerians on the current situation and assured that adequate measures have been put in place to maintain supply sufficiency and prevent future occurrence.

Also in the week, the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) was applauded by three former Managing Directors (MDs) of the Company.

The MDs who visited the refinery on an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation advised PHRC Management to ensure that members of staff use the opportunity of the rehabilitation to acquire specific expertise on key operational areas.

The three former MDs are Dr Bafred Enjugu, who was in-charge from 2014 to 2017; Mr Shehu Malami, who was the MD from 2017 to 2018 and Engr. Abba Bukar, the immediate past MD who retired in March 2020.

They expressed delight at being able to inspect the ongoing works and advised the management to manage cost and ensure a successful completion of the rehabilitation.

In his remarks Mr Abba Bukar thanked PHRC management for the opportunity to see firsthand, the ongoing works and staff who worked with him when he was at the helm of affairs at the refinery.

To manage the overall cost of the project, Bukar advised PHRC management to evaluate all the warehoused spare parts to determine those that can be used in the ongoing rehabilitation as a way of saving cost.

On his part, Mr Shehu Malami called on the management and staff of PHRC to ensure the successful completion of the rehabilitation project within budget, as it was in the interest of all PHRC staff, whether serving or retired.

He commended PHRC for achieving ISO recertification and enjoined the management team to ensure that proper processes and procedures were adhered to especially in the course of the rehabilitation.

In his remarks, Dr Bafred Enjugu advised PHRC management to use the opportunity offered by the ongoing rehabilitation to build skills and expertise in specific areas like rotating equipment, electrical and mechanical engineering.

He noted that subject matter experts that would be developed through exposure to the rehabilitation would serve as reservoirs of knowledge that can be used for the provision of solution in other locations and as resource persons across the company.

Furthermore, he said PHRC Management should pay attention to the rehabilitation project by ensuring that products that would later be refined in the plants would be of standard in quality and to specification.

Earlier, the serving MD of PHRC, Dikko described the visiting former MDs as professionals who gave their best to NNPC and the refining sector in the country as they all worked both in Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) and PHRC.

He said that by coming to see the ongoing rehabilitation, the former MDs had demonstrated the spirit of camaraderie, as their visit and support for the project would boost the spirit and morale of staff.

Dikko said the visit showed that staff who retired from the system still had pivotal roles to play in the activities of the company.

He briefed the former MDs on the progress made on the refinery rehabilitation and the Corporate Social Responsibility efforts being made for host communities.

Dikko said these efforts had led to relative peace and assured that PHRC would continue to work with hosts communities through honest engagements and social investments that would create mutual benefits.

  • Fuel scarcity: Minister of State for Petroleum appeals to Nigerians to be patient

    By Emmanuella Anokam

The Federal Government has sympathised with Nigerians over unforeseen hardship occasioned by scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and called for patience in finding lasting solutions to the problem.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, made the appeal on Sunday in a statement by his Senior Adviser ,Media & Communications, Horatius Egua.

“In the last weeks, Nigerians have grappled with fuel scarcity not because of the absence of supply of products but due to inspection failure, which allowed adulterated products into the country.

“This is regrettable, and the Federal Government sympathises with the citizenry over the unforeseen hardship, occasioned by the inevitable scarcity.

“Let me once again appeal to Nigerians to be patient with government in finding lasting solutions to the crisis,” Sylva said.

He appreciated the NNPC for showing so much concern to the plight of Nigerians by coming forward with an apology.

“This is unprecedented and showed that we on the government side are not afraid to take responsibility,” he added.

The minister also said the Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority had been out on the streets, fuel stations to ensure that the situation normalise quickly.

According to him, we are beginning to see the fruits of their efforts.

“It is not a time to trade blames as is customary in Nigeria. It is, therefore, not a time to query anyone but a time to come together to salvage the plight of the average Nigerian.

“After the storm settles, there will be time enough to investigate and get to the bottom, so that this does not repeat itself.

“President Muhammadu Buhari’s charge to all parties and agencies concerned is to work together to ensure that normalcy returns quickly.

“The Nigerian people deserve the best and the government is determined to set the country on the right path of petroleum products availability and sustainability,” Sylva said.

This, he said, was demonstrated in the award of the contracts for the rehabilitation of all our refineries and the acquisition of stake in the Dangote Refinery. (NAN)

  • Rescue Nigeria Mission RENMISS declares support for Yahaya Bello as President of Nigeria 2023

    By Sunday John

Ahead of  the 2023 general election, Rescue Nigeria Mission (RENMISS), a socio-political group, has called on Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi  to contest for president on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

National Chairman of the group, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu-Damat  made the call on Sunday in Lafia, Nasarawa,  at a town hall meeting with various youth groups and coordinators from the six states of North – Central zone and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

Shuaibu-Damat said  that it was necessary for leaders of APC across the country to support Gov. Bello, to fly its ticket in the 2023 general election, as a representative of the youths.

He also noted that the support for  Bello to become president would enhance peace, unity and progress of the country.

He explained that the group was already mobilising people, especially the youths, in all the 774 local government areas of the 36 states and FCT, adding that  a lot of Nigerians have keyed into the project.

Mr Haruna Nuhu-Tauhid, Coordinator of the group in North-Central, said the older generation had their turn in the party in 2015 and 2019 and had done well, noting therefore, that it was only right to support a youth.

The coordinator added that the group was not just supporting Bello as a youth, but for his vibrancy commitment, capacity and capability to turn things around for good.

Also, Dahiru Nagogo, Nasarawa Coordinator of the group, said  Bello had proven to be very courageous, visionary, dedicated and committed to the cause of the country.

He explained that they had  interacted with Gov. Bello often and knew that under his leadership, the youths would be given their rightful place in the scheme of things.

According to him,  Bello will address the root causes of insecurity by engaging the youths and making them unavailable for recruitment into crimes and other vices.

The meeting had in attendance representatives from Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, Kogi and Benue States, as well as the FCT Abuja(NAN).

  • MACBAN, Dalung meets to tackle pastoralists challenges

    By Salisu Sani-Idris

The National leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), as well as those of the 36 states of the federation, on Sunday converged in Abuja to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the group.

The National Secretary of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, while addressing newsmen at the National Mosque Auditorium, the venue of the meeting, said the conference would evolve strategies to improve the well-being of pastoralists.

He said the pastoralists were at the receiving end of all the crises, adding that they had lost more than three million cattle to rustlers and kidnappers.

Ngelzarma said considering the security challenges in the country, most people now regard the Fulani as criminals and which is not so.

According to him, pastoralists are not spared by bandits and terrorists as they are also attacked and their livestock rustled.

“Who are the owners of the cattle being rusted? They are the pastoralists. So we are at the receiving end of all the crises,” he said.

Ngelzarma said that the Kogi forest was dominated by Fulani pastoralists who, he alleged, were chased out from the South-East and the state has remained one of the most peaceful in the country.

“So this goes to show that not all Fulani are criminals. Therefore, profiling the entire Fulani ethnic group as criminals because of the criminal activities of a few is injustice,” he said.

He said that the tenure of the current executive of MACBAN would expire in April, adding that in the next two months the association would elect new executives.

“We come and go after every four years, now there is going to be an election that will be organised under the leadership and instruction of the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the association, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III,” he announced.

Earlier, a former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr Solomon Dalung, urged the leadership of MACBAN to open up the frontiers and accommodate stakeholders who believed in the unity of Nigeria.

“If I have not been here today, I would still be living with the stereotype being dished out in the conventional and social media that the Fulani have an agenda to take over this country.

“I came here and discovered that MACBAN members are also in a helpless situation because so many leaders of Miyetti Allah have been killed by criminal gangs and to accept to be a leader of the association is a big burden, “ he said.

Dalung, however, urged government to improve on the security of lives and property of citizens across the country.

He also advised government to engage traditional rulers in resolving the lingering farmer-herder clashes in the country.

Also, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, said the outcome of the meeting would assist the government to enhance strategy towards addressing the challenges bedeviling pastoralists in the country.

Represented by Alhaji Aminu Sadiq, the Zannan Kano, the emir said “if we don’t voice out our own problems, how will the world know our challenges.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by the representative of the Sultan of Sokoto, leaders and members of the association across the country. (NAN)
