Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks on Friday with visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games opening ceremony. The two leaders agreed to deepen strategic coordination in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Recalling his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in Russia in 2014 when they agreed to meet again eight years later in Beijing, Xi said Putin’s visit has realized their “get-together for the Winter Olympics,” and their meeting today will inject more vitality into China-Russia relations.

Despite the multiple challenges that face the world, China and Russia have stayed true to their original aspirations and maintained the steady development of bilateral relations, said Xi.

The two countries have firmly supported each other in upholding their respective core interests, enhanced their political and strategic mutual trust, and brought the bilateral trade to a new high, Xi said.

The two sides have actively taken part in the reform and development of the global governance system, practiced true multilateralism, upheld true democratic spirit, and played a pivotal role in uniting the international society to tide over the current difficulties and safeguard international equity and justice, he said.

Xi said he stands ready to work with Putin to chart the future and provide guidance for bilateral relations under new historical circumstances. He expressed willingness to work with Putin to promote the continuous transformation of high-level mutual trust between China and Russia into results of cooperation in all fields and bring real benefits to the people of the two countries.

Xi stressed commitment between China and Russia to deepening back-to-back strategic coordination and upholding international equity and justice side by side in the face of profound and complex changes in the international situation.

The strategic choice, which has far-reaching impacts on both countries and the world at large, has never been and will never be shaken, said Xi.

Xi called on both sides to continue to maintain close high-level exchanges, give strong support to each other in safeguarding sovereignty, security and development interests, effectively respond to external interference and regional security threats, and maintain international strategic stability.

Both sides should step up coordination and cooperation in international affairs, and shoulder major-country responsibilities in global issues of pressing concern, such as fighting COVID-19, boosting the economy and tackling climate change, said Xi.

China is ready to work with Russia to give full play to the political advantages of bilateral relations and push for more achievements in all-round pragmatic cooperation, Xi said.

He called for implementing the roadmap for high-quality development of China-Russia trade in goods and services, deepening cooperation in such areas as agriculture, green trade, medicine and health, and the digital economy, promoting transport infrastructure connectivity, and maintaining the smooth logistics on the Eurasian continent as well as stability of global industrial and supply chains.

China and Russia should strengthen their strategic partnership in energy, steadily advance major oil and gas cooperation projects, step up joint innovation in major energy technologies, expand cooperation on new energy, support each other in ensuring energy security, and improve the global energy governance system, he said.

Xi called for more technological innovation cooperation between the two countries, and cooperation in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and the International Lunar Research Station project.

The two countries should deepen communication on fiscal and financial policies, strengthen their capability of resisting financial risks, and seek greater synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, he said.

Xi said that he is ready to jointly announce with Putin the official launch of the Years of Sports Exchanges between the two countries to deepen mutual understanding and traditional friendship between the two peoples.

Xi said China and Russia should view the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from a strategic and long-term perspective, move in the right direction and better safeguard the security and common interests of its member states.

Hailing the SCO’s extraordinary course of development over the past 20 years, Xi said it has become an important constructive force in the international community.

China is ready to work with Russia to enable the BRICS cooperation mechanism to play a bigger role in upholding multilateralism, strengthening anti-pandemic cooperation and promoting economic recovery, and make a greater contribution to global development while realizing the development of the five BRICS countries, he said.

Putin said he is delighted to be invited to the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and noted that the exchange of visits during the Olympics has become a symbol and a good tradition of close relations between the two heads of state.

He expressed belief that the Chinese people will definitely present a Winter Olympics of the highest level to the world, expecting wonderful performances of both Russian and Chinese athletes.

Noting that the COVID-19 pandemic has not prevented him from maintaining close exchanges with President Xi through various channels, Putin said the bilateral trade has made steady progress, and the two countries have cooperated closely on international affairs.

He said Russia regards China as its most important strategic partner and like-minded friend, and Russia-China relations are a model of international relations in the 21st century.

The Russian side is willing to further deepen strategic communication and coordination with the Chinese side, firmly support each other in safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, firmly uphold the core coordination role of the United Nations, firmly uphold international law and international fairness and justice, and promote the building of a more just and reasonable international order, Putin said.

He also expressed Russia’s readiness to work with China to deepen cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, energy, science and technology, finance, and transportation, and jointly host the Years of Sports Exchanges.

China and Russia issued a joint statement, in which they called on all countries to strengthen dialogue, enhance mutual trust, build consensus, safeguard the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom for all humanity.

In the statement, they also called for respect for the rights of people of all countries to independently choose their development paths, respect for the sovereignty and security, and development interests of all countries.

They also called for defending the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, practice true multilateralism in which the United Nations and the United Nations Security Council play a central coordinating role, promote the democratization of international relations, and achieve world peace, stability and sustainable development.

The two countries also signed a series of cooperation documents in key areas.

When you think about Netflix’s first original series, what do you think of? The White House? The Litchfield Correctional Institute… Nope, not those. Our actual first original series was Lilyhammer and today, February 6, marks the 10th anniversary of its historic Netflix premiere.

A seminal moment in Netflix history began in a recording studio by the North Sea. Bergen is where Norwegian creators Eilif Skodvin and Anne Bjørnstad approached Stevie Van Zandt about a show they wrote for him set in a small Norwegian town called Lillehammer. A few months later, having heard that Netflix was looking for original content, I got a call directly from Stevie, who wanted to send us the series. I asked if we could read the scripts and Stevie said “Scripts? I can send you the whole season.” We watched it and we loved it. I thought it was a classic fish-out-of-water story, with Stevie playing a role loved by audiences, and the interplay between his no-nonsense hitman Frank Tagliano and the gentle community around him made for some great comedy. It was a character that was so familiar in a culture that few audiences had seen. I wasn’t sure what would come from that first phone call with Stevie. I was (am) a huge fan of his music and I loved him in The Sopranos, so I was happy just to get to talk to him for a few minutes.

In his new book Unrequited Infatuations, Stevie said that the call led to the best business meeting of his life – which was when we got together in person. I remember that Stevie was a much better actor and musician than he was a salesman; he would humbly describe the show as “different, odd, quirky, sometimes it’s in English and sometimes it has subtitles…” almost like he was trying to talk me out of it. What he didn’t know was that we had already watched the episodes and were in love with the show. We agreed to buy it and commission a second season, not knowing that Norwegian TV shows mostly only ran for one season and usually took long hiatuses between seasons if they did return. We worked out a deal.

The meeting was great and Stevie loved every idea, except one. When I told him that we would not be showing the episodes one per week, we would deliver the entire season all at once. That stopped him in his tracks. “You labor and suffer and someone can watch a year of your work in one night? That sounds a little weird,” he said. “It’s not weird,” I told him. “It’s just like working on an album.” He laughed and agreed.

After first airing on Norwegian broadcast TV NRK on Jan. 25, 2012, we debuted Lilyhammer on Netflix Feb. 6, 2012, offering all eight episodes to our members in the US, Canada and Latin America (followed by the UK, Ireland, and the Nordics later that year). This was the first time we streamed a show across multiple countries and languages…and it worked.

Looking back, Lilyhammer was perhaps an unorthodox choice for our first show. But it worked because it was a deeply local story that we could share with the world. The jokes and references worked locally and the more universal themes of the shows traveled perfectly.

Since then, we’ve seen so many great local stories resonate with people in other countries and from other cultures: shows and films set anywhere and told in any language. Lilyhammer was the forebearer of so many great shows to come – Dark Desire and Who Killed Sara? from Mexico, La Casa de Papel from Spain, The Rain and The Chestnut Man from Denmark, Dark and Barbarians from Germany, Lupin from France, Sacred Games from India, and of course, most recently, Squid Game from Korea, our biggest show ever. But the first always will be Lilyhammer.

Thank you Lilyhammer and Stevie Van Zandt for starting this incredible ten-year journey. It’s always hard to predict what’s to come in the next ten but one thing is certain: we’ll have many more great stories from anywhere that can be loved everywhere.

Leading up to Sunday night’s blockbuster BBMzansi Live Show, we’d already clocked how Biggie had made sure the Housemates never get too comfortable with any set of consistent conditions.

Right out of the gate, the Housemates soon learned that they would be moving around the House anonymously. It wouldn’t be until much later, when not knowing each other’s name had already established an interesting dynamic, that the big reveals would come.

Five major plot twists later, Biggie delivered one for the books. Leading up to Sunday, the Nominated Housemates were on edge.

On Sunday morning, they knew that one of them would be living through their last hours in the House. Who was it going to be?

In the Diary Room, some of the Housemates revealed that they felt Mvelo could just live another day to fight. Mvelo echoed these sentiments, telling Biggie that Dinkybliss’s constant bickering with the Housemates made her a bigger target. He felt that he a survival chance of 7.5 as he is not public enemy #1. He also counted on his high number of followers outside the House to save him.

Dinkybliss also had her hopes quite high. Although she’d recently had little fires with a few Housemates, she’d apologised earlier this week. The house is full of naughty people, she said, and Mvelo just didn’t blend as well with the wild tribe.

What no one could have known is that Biggie had a different plan. A cash prize of R2 Million is at stake.

The Housemates were told during the Wager Task verdict that they were needing to pull up their socks and bring their A-game. So by the time the big shocker of a Double-Eviction struck both Dinkybliss and Mvelo, Mzansi knew Biggie means business!

The big plot twists follows a series of others, which have had the Housemates switching sides and polishing their game from the minute they entered the House.

The introduction of two new Housemates a week into the show, allowing only the HoH and DHoH to make the Nominations for this Eviction and the Fake Nomination are just a few switches we’ve seen dribble the faves so far!

The question is; what’s next?

What a double explosive night – the numbers are dropping and as you know by now two Big Brother Housemates were Evicted, tonight, dropping the crowd from 19 Housemates to 17. The Nominated Housemates that were on the chopping block were Dinkybliss, Gash1, Mphowabadimo, Mvelo and Norman.

After they experienced the previous Eviction Show, we think somehow the Nominated Housemates may have thought that tonight may be another day to experience Biggie’s generosity and possibly make it through another week. However, with Lawrence’s swift and suave approach in his announcements it became clear that Biggie had other plans.  After a quick recap of some of the week’s major events from the HoH Challenge to the Wager Task, Lawrence announced that the first Housemate to exit the BBMzansi House is Mvelo.

 

 

When asked about some things he didn’t know about himself inside the House when he finally got outside, Mvelo said “I didn’t know I was the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T)” but after seeing his BBMzansi journey video he was more surprised that he ate his Pap with a fork and knife. Mvelo expressed it is the nature of the beast to leave first and the game is just a game so he is not worried, but he’ll take it in his stride. When asked about who he will miss the most outside the House, Mvelo channeled his inner Keith Sweat as he sang “Nobody.”

We barely had time to bid our hilarious Mvelo before Lawrence returned to ruffle a few feathers with the Nominated Housemates and told them that it was time for the second Housemate to be Evicted. Once again, the Nominees were required to stand but Lawrence decided to give it a twist and inform Gash1 that he is safe. However, this did not put the remaining Nominees out of their misery by announcing that Dinkybliss was the next to go.

On her way out of the House, Dinkybliss dropped some iconic Code 14 twerking that shook the Housemates, surely, we will miss her spirited participation at the Saturday Night Party. She did not waste any time on the main stage as she went to chat with Lawrence and dropped another ground shaking, twerk fest on the mainstage – Lawrence couldn’t help but chuckle.

 

 

During her sit down with Lawrence, Dinkybliss was excited and vibrant as always however, she broke down as she answered one question about the hardest part of being on BBMzansi. For her, she says having to open up and be vulnerable about her childhood and how she grew up was the toughest part of the game but overall, she believes she was herself and enjoyed every moment she was in the House.

It’s going to take some time for the tension to subside after tonight’s Double Eviction, but the remaining Housemates are feeling the sting of the Live Show.  Most Housemates are visibly worried about being caught out in their hot gossip as Lawrence’s crossovers with the Housemates during the Live Show are unpredictable.

Gear up, tomorrow will have the coveted Head of House Challenge with another round of Nominations – let’s hope the remaining Housemates can at least enjoy more meals and bed space around the House.

The two interacted very well with the Housemates and the Housemates were in a moon with the sounds that were left on the floor by Ms. Cosmo – from her Afro Pop genre to her Hip Hop genre playlist.

Housemates were sweating from beginning to end. Then DJ Stokie came and left it all on the floor – including Mpho’s tears. From his laid-back Yanos genre to some epic throwback gems.

The Housemates danced their shoes off! And even the regular Housemates who hardly dance were kicking it on the floor! We know the Viewers were also very much partying along with the Housemates.

They paired up all night, clinked their drinks and cheered as they partied their night away.

 

 

Post-Party Drama

As soon as the curtains closed, Mpho was spotted in Libo’s arms sobbing and so the drama unfolded. It seems that Mpho is not over her ex and a song played by DJ Stokie for the night reminded her of the love she still has and the hurt she endured in her former relationship.

Now we sympathize with her, but the timing could not have been a worse sting for Libo who had just shared a passionate kiss initiated by Mpho on the dance floor.

Just when we thought the ship was sailing tonight, it seems that some emotions she buried were much harder to get over and time hasn’t healed these wounds. Poor Libo…back to the zone it seems.

 

Relationship-ically the House is on fire! The Housemates seem to be doing rounds cleaning up their triangles and ships are either sailing or sinking. The friendzone is getting deeper or some seem to be escaping it.

Venus and B.U seem to be sailing after some assurance and confrontation. Venus took it upon herself to confront B.U about Acacia and he quickly dismissed any feelings toward Acacia.

Venus was clear in that she likes B.U but needs him more assertive and less entertaining to the girls who make moves on him in the House.

Just when we thought we were done with ships, Tulz got confronted by Thato who feels like he has not been honest with her. He responds that he has been and any time Thato speaks to him, she brings up Naledi and never asks him what he thinks of her.

He makes it very clear that he is not dating Naledi, may have liked her but that is no longer and he deliberately made no move on Thato so that she did not feel “second best”.

On social it seems fans were advising Thato to move on, immediately but it seems that she is the one in a friendzone and not the other way round. However, she still has options, Gash1 tried opening up to her about his love interest but our girl is not buying it, she’s convinced that he’s only after her because Terry turned him down.

Whew! It’s tense in the House but we are here for this drama.

In as much as the Housemates are playing it cool around the BBMzansi House, we can’t help but notice some love interests that are slowly blossoming amongst them. However, our biggest question is – will they follow through with their apparent interests or stall on their advances and end up in a messy love triangle.

Sometimes, two weeks may feel like a long time when you think about the way the Housemates must spend a lot of time with each other. As expected, Cupid is working overtime in Biggie’s House but are the Housemates ready to ship.

Who knew we would need the Pythagoras theorem to solve these #BBMzansi love triangles. Either way, it’s about to get interesting here’s what we have noticed.

Venus x B.U x Yoli x Acacia  

The charming B.U. has hit it off with Yoli since day one of the season and their chemistry is undeniable, from their interest in music to their random bonding moments.

Be it friendship or that other kind of ship we think their connection is exciting and refreshing but could easily fall apart and as we know the friendzone is the pits!

On the other hand, B.U. has been showing interest in Venus – from the small talk to trying to spend more time with her in the House, however, Venus has been a little ambivalent towards, but she’s made it known that she is interested in B.U. but she’s worried that he will play with her heart.

She says she is a sapiosexual and finds his conversations intriguing but she worries about the way he carries himself around other girls.

 

 

Mpho x Libo x Nale 

It must be love on the brain and Libo seems to be stuck between a rock and hard place. In the past few weeks, Libo has been getting closer to Mphowabadimo with each passing day.

It all started with the impromptu reading she gave him by connecting to his ancestors. The connection between them has not stopped as they seem to have found some sort of comfort in each other – from sharing the hottest gossip in the Garden to have their own moments in the House, the pair seems to be making strides in their shipping affairs but hold on there’s someone else in the picture. Libo told Biggie in one of his Diary Sessions that he has his eyes set on Nale.

On the flip side,  Libo says “I’d like to ruffle a few feathers. I see that B.U is interested in Venus. I want to see if he can handle a little competition… I know I will come out on top!” Look out B.U.because Libo is ready to scatter whatever he has going on especially now he’s aware that B.U. made unsuccessful advances to Mphowabadimo.

Is it just a game for him or is he out to scatter ships? Libo may have a number of ladies on his radar but one thing we are rooting for is his confidence, who will fall for it?

Mphowabadimo has shown she’s interested in him and even shared a passionate kiss with Libo. It seems like the beginning of a budding ship here, but our key takeaway is, it’s one thing to be interested in someone and another to be expressive about how you feel for them.

That said, Libo has been struggling to be vulnerable with both these ladies – given his past heartbreak we think there’s a lot at stake for him if he chooses to fall in love with one of these ladies.  Whatever the case is for him, we hope he chooses wisely and finally settles.

 

 

Nale x Tulz x Thato

What’s going on in Nale’s head? Does she like Tulz or nah, or is it all just mind-games? We have reason to think that Nale is interested in Tulz but her game is stronger than it seems. After being selected to be the DHoH, Nale would spend most of her time with Tulz and as it happens, she has been visibly fond of him from the quirky way she would mimic his behaviour to their deep meaningful conversations – we’ve seen them grow closer to one another.

However, when Tulz confessed to not being able to be alone with her in the dark she quickly interjected and insisted on leaving the HoH Bedroom for the sake of establishing healthy boundaries.

On the other hand, we think she could have been playing him at his own game to make sure he makes the first move while she still holds the power to accept his advances, or is it a bigger power play at hand?

Nale may simply be aligning with whoever she thinks is the strongest guy in the House – either way, she is in the game and she is playing her part. Although Tulz appears to be primarily occupied by Nale, he has had his fair share of encounters with Thato – who has expressed her unwavering crush on him and even stated that she would date him outside the House.

Thato has slowly been moving ‘on Tulz and unfortunately for her, we think Tulz had a plan to use her to make Nale jealous. Tulz is aware of Thato’s feelings and plays very cautiously around her while still leading her on enough to keep her thinking about him.

After the Saturday Night Party, she expressed her frustration to Tulz, as she feels like she has been third-wheeling For Nale and Tulz. However, Thato is aware that Nale and Tulz are quite fond of each other.

 

 

Terry x Vyno

It’s a fascinating dynamic that Terry is very sexually liberated but, by her own admission, emotionally closed off but at the same time open to Vyno’s advances.

On Thursday night, the two had very heartfelt discussions, and could not keep their hands off each other – they came close to sealing it with a kiss. Vyno has expressed that the possibility of shipping in the House with Terry is his number one priority but she says her eyes are set on the game right now.

Although social media is rooting for them and has since dubbed the pair the Valentine’s special, we hope that these two find their way through these murky waters.

Who knows, they might set sail but since it’s uncertain about the possibility of being in a relationship we hope they come to an understanding of their own –  maybe it may be on the table outside the House.

Today is World Cancer Day 2022, and the Lagos State Government has announced that it will examine 100,000 women for breast and cervical cancer free of charge every year.

Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, made the announcement today at the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area Secretariat, which was hosting a community outreach drive to honor World Cancer Day in Lagos.

Free breast and cervical cancer screenings have now begun at 62 State health facilities, including designated General Hospitals that provide gynecological and obstetrics care and flagship primary health care centers around the State, according to Ogboye.

He noted that this year’s World Cancer Day with the theme: “Close The Care Gap”, has provided yet another opportunity to improve awareness on cancer and to encourage its prevention through early screening and detection, diagnosis and prompt treatment of the various types of cancers.

He said: “Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Globally, nearly one in six deaths is due to cancer and 70 percent of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries such as Nigeria”.

Ogboye while reiterating the need for periodic screening and lifestyle modification as preventive measures against the non-communicable disease stated that the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that as many as 40 percent of deaths from cancer are preventable.

He noted that raising awareness for cancer prevention, screening and early management has become a very important goal for all stakeholders and citizens.

“Cancer is no respecter of persons, age, sex, religion, residence or wealth.

Therefore, it is very essential that we continue to inform ourselves about cancers and the fact that every single person has the ability to make a difference, be it large or small and also that together we can make real progress in reducing the global impact of cancer, create a cancer-free world and prevent millions of deaths each year.

“This year’s World Cancer Day commemoration event has provided the opportunity to conduct advocacy to the people of Ikosi-Isheri as well as the entire citizenry and increase awareness on the importance of early screening, prompt diagnosis and treatment of cancers”, he said.

Ogboye noted that no fewer than 200 women of child bearing age were screened for breast and cervical cancer during the outreach program at Ikosi-Isheri adding the State Government will provide free treatment for cervical precancerous lesions for women who require it.

“I want to encourage us all to adopt a healthy and safe lifestyle. Let us ensure we go for regular screening as and when due and we seek medical help early as prevention is always better, cheaper, preferable and less stressful than curative measures”, he concluded.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director Disease Control, Lagos State Ministry Health, Dr. Rotimi Agbolagorite noted that Lagos State Government commenced the State Cancer Control Program in the year 2005 in recognition of the increasing trend of the global epidemic of cancers.

He explained that the Lagos State Cervical Control entails awareness creation, sensitization, health education and promotion, and free screening for breast, cervical and prostate cancer for citizens.

Agbolagorite stated that the State Government with the support of a non governmental organization, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) has built the capacity of over 300 healthcare workers across the State’s primary and secondary health facilities, and LASUTH to provide secondary prevention services for cervical cancer to Lagosians across all the LGAs in the State.

“In addition, the organization has provided requisite equipment, materials and consumables to be utilized for these screenings”, he added.

Speaking in the same vein, the Cervical Control Program Coordinator for CHAI, Dr. Maltida Kerry stated that CHAI through UNITAID grant is supporting the Lagos State Ministry of Health to screen approximately 200,000 women for cervical cancer and provide precancerous treatment for those in need in Lagos over a two year period.

“Since the launch of the cervical cancer program in 2019, CHAI through the support of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Health Service Commission and the State Primary Health Care Board has been able to create cervical cancer service demand generation and increase access to cervical cancer services”, she noted.

Victor Osimhen of the Super Eagles is a top target for Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs were apparently interested in signing the striker in the middle of the season as a way to improve Antonio Conte’s attacking options, but their bid was rejected by Napoli in January.

Despite missing two months of the season due to injuries, Osimhen has put up a strong performance, scoring nine goals in 16 games.

According to Football Insider, Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici is planning on returning for the former Lille striker at the end of the season.

The publication added that the deal for the striker, who joined Napoli in the summer of 2020, will not come so cheap deal.

The report claims Osimhen is valued slightly higher than that original fee at £70m.

Spurs did manage to secure an addition to their frontline in January, with Dejan Kulusevski arriving from Juventus along with midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
