  • NBA Calls For Investigation Of Justice Odili’s Home Raid

Security personnel raided the home of Odili, a supreme court justice, on Friday night, claiming “illegal activities” were taking place there.

A search warrant was issued in favour of one Lawrence Ajodo, listed as a Chief Superintendent of Police and a member of the Asset Tax Recovery Panel of the Ministry of Justice, by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna of Wuse zone 6 Magistrate Court.

    .

However, the warrant did not bear the name or the correct residential address of the supreme court justice.

While the justice’s address is 7, Imo river street, Maitama, the address on the warrant is 9, Imo Street, Maitama.

The magistrate has since revoked the warrant.

Similarly, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims that it was involved in the raid, while Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has disassociated himself from the raid and ordered a probe into the invasion.

Akpata in reaction to the situation via a statement on Saturday said the fact that the EFCC and Malami have denied their involvement in the operation, “suggests the inference that the residence of the second most senior judicial officer in Nigeria was raided by rogue security agencies”.

“The grave implications of this possibility leave a lot to be desired.”

The NBA President wrote, “When viewed in the context of a similar raid on the premises of supreme court justices in 2016, the rationale of which was never fully explained or indeed justified, the NBA interprets last night’s incident as a part of an orchestrated affront on the Judiciary, designed to intimidate and ridicule the Judiciary. The NBA will no longer allow this to continue.

“In case the law enforcement agencies have not learnt their lessons, events like this do nothing but erode the independence of sacred democratic institutions like the Judiciary, undermine the rule of law in Nigeria, and set the country back in the quest to instill confidence in citizens of Nigeria, Nigerian businesses, and foreign investors that Nigeria operates a democracy with an independent judiciary.

“I have spoken with my lord, Peter-Odili JSC, and I am happy to report that she is alive and well. Beyond that, however, it is my pledge to Nigerians that the NBA will get to the root of this matter.

“In line with the aims and objectives of the NBA which include the protection and defence of the independence of the Judiciary and the Rule of Law in Nigeria, we will be convening an emergency meeting of the NBA National Executive Committee solely to discuss this issue and take a definitive stand on behalf of the NBA.

“I will also lead a delegation to the honourable attorney-general of the federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, and the relevant heads of security agencies to seek further clarification on the circumstances of this incident.

“Thereafter, the NBA will ensure that all those responsible for this unfortunate incident are brought to book. We must do all that is required to safeguard the independence of our Judiciary and indeed protect our hard-won democracy.”

  • Nigeria approves gratuities of 102 ex-Biafran soldiers

Payment of gratuity and other emolument of 102 ex-Biafran soldiers who were granted Presidential pardon by President Muhammadu Buhari, has been approved by the federal government.

Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (Rtd) made the announcement on Friday October 15, during the ministerial briefing to flag-off the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at Army War College in Abuja.

He noted that most of the personnel involved in the war are no longer alive, hence the reason only 102 war veterans are selected.

He added that those who are still alive with genuine complaints will be attended to in due time. Magashi said;  “It will interest you to know that the Military Pension Board just concluded the documentation of ex-Biafran service personnel totaling 102 who were pardoned by Mr. President.”

The war ended 51 years ago and many of those involved are no more alive but those with genuine complaints can come forward with their claims for consideration.”

The Minister also disclosed that the payment of pension and gratuities to retired military personnel have been prompt and regular.

Magashi added;   ”In line with the anti-corruption stand of the present administration, the Ministry of Defence in conjunction with the Military Pension Board conducts regular verification exercise for Military pensioners. The exercise is intended to streamline and check leakages in the system.”

The Ministry would continue to engage the pensioners through relevant organs like the Nigerian Legion, the Veteran Affairs Division and the Military Pension Board to ensure that Government obligations to them are met.”

  • Oyo Govt Set to Revoke contracts from 22 Firms

The Oyo state Government, on Thursday, has said it will not hesitate to revoke unexecuted contracts on renovation and construction projects, under its 2012-2018 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention Project from defaulting contractors in the State.

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board said this is in line with directives from the Universal Basic Education Commission, Abuja.

Speaking with the twenty-two contractors in Ibadan, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran explained that the contracts would be terminated following a breach of contract terms.

He noted that many of the contracts, including those awarded by the previous administration had been dragging since 2018, adding that this is in contravention of the time frame of the contractual agreement which stipulated two (2) weeks for completion of borehole and maximum of 24 weeks for completion of Model schools.

Dr. Adeniran said the board would not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions against these defaulting contractors, who have failed to meet project specifications in the execution of UBEC/SUBEB jobs in the State.

He added that the contractors may answer queries from the Anti-graft body, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, after the November, 2021 deadline, adding that they also risk being blacklisted by UBEC for further contracts of UBEC/SUBEB nationwide.

“The message here is clear, the job has taken too long, your failure to deliver on the agreed dates is affecting the wellbeing of our children, we will reverse the contract”, he said.

“We have issued several warnings, this is about the third time. We need to revoke the contract and give those that will do the job. The guideline is clear and we are not going to compromise,” he warned.

The SUBEB boss, who was at the meeting in company of Management staff of the Board, queried the rationale behind the contractors’ refusal to deliver results, despite the mobilization fee Government had given them.

Adeniran noted that, as part of concerted efforts to enforce standards, as well as ensure that there are only appropriate execution of projects, the Board in 2019 did not revoke their contracts, despite the fact that they were issued by the former administration.

  • Eurofragance Produces its First Captive: L’Ame du Bois™ from Wood Waste to the Perfumer’s Palette

The Spanish multinational Eurofragance has chosen to introduce its very first captive: L’Ame du Bois™ at Beautyworld Middle East in Dubai, one of the world’s leading beauty trade shows. This new perfumery ingredient is significant for Eurofragance in three respects. It fills an interesting gap in the woody notes olfactive family, by providing a high impact composition that harmonizes with other ingredients in the fragrance formula and highlights their individual characteristics. Secondly, L’Ame du Bois™ is made from wood waste that has been naturally upcycled into a precious raw material. And finally, this new ingredient has a genderless olfactive profile that makes it of particular interest for today’s consumers of high-end fragrance experiences.

    Ame du Bois

Out of the Woods Comes New News

Wood notes have always held an important place in the Perfumer’s palette, who will often count on this broad olfactive family to create the heart or base of his or her fragrance. Always eager to address a challenge, Eurofragance took on the task of creating their first captive; an innovative raw material that would bring some new news to this family of ingredients. Felipe San Juan Tejada, R&D Scientist at Eurofragance, who led the joint team of Perfumers and R&D Experts for three years on this project, had this to say about the result of their work: “We honored nature by creating a new olfactive expression for wood that provides the building blocks for future fragrance creations. We feel that in the near term L’Ame du Bois™ should be reserved for the design of prestige fragrances and for all premium product categories, be it fine fragrance, home or personal care.”

From Sawdust to Premium Perfume, or the Art of Upcycling

It is a challenge for any fragrance house to create an interesting and desirable captive, but Eurofragance set the bar even higher by deciding that their future wood-based ingredient had to respect their strict sustainability philosophy. So, how does one produce a natural extract from wood without deforesting or negatively impacting the environment The answer came from upcycling discarded sawdust from a particular tree.

The objective of the team was to remove, via natural purification methods, the superfluous, parasitic, molecules from the wood compound, but keep those of perfumistic interest. This time-consuming purification step was repeated over and over, over several months. In the end, they were able to uncover an ingredient with the best olfactory profile, while retaining the soul of the wood. In French, soul (or essence) translates into “ame“. Hence, Eurofragance named their captive: L’Ame du Bois™, the soul of wood.

A Woody Note Befit for Our Times

Historically, natural woody notes were often perceived as being more masculine. Eurofragance being well aware that times are changing, was interested in creating an ingredient that could appeal to women and men alike, and also resonate for those seeking more unisex scents. L’Ame du Bois™ perfectly fits the bill. Henry van den Heuvel, Global Creative Director and Senior Perfumer at Eurofragance, who was actively involved in the design of the innovative ingredient, offered his assessment: “L’Ame du Bois™ is avant-garde in terms of its conception, but, above all, for what it brings to fragrance creation. • Sanwo-Olu Reveals What Tinubu Brought Back From London For 2023 Elections

Sanwo-Olu made the statement on Sunday in Lagos during a special gathering honoring Tinubu’s return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.

According to Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Tinubu is re-energized and ready to take on the next political challenge, and those who wished the APC leader ill will have been disappointed.

He made the statement amid mounting speculation that Tinubu is considering running for president of Nigeria in 2023.

Sanwo-Olu however stopped short of confirming such plans, only talking generally on the readiness of the Bourdillon chief to pursue his next political moves with energy, strength and vigour.

In his words, “We give glory to God who brought you (Tinubu) back with sound health and stronger vigour.

“We give praises to God that the intention of evil-minded people who spread malicious rumour against our leader did not materialise.

”This event shows Asiwaju is healthy and possesses more energy to embark on his next move in politics.”

Tinubu had been in London for about three months where he underwent surgery on his right knee and post-surgery physiotherapy.

He returned to Nigeria on Saturday and a welcome back event was organized for him on Sunday.

Those at the event included: Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; wife of the Governor Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; former Lagos Deputy Governor Mrs. Idiat Adebule; House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila; Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Obasa; Senator Olamilekan Solomon, among others.

Meanwhile, popular lawmaker and businessman, Shina Peller has debunked reports that he spoke against the 2023 presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The lawmaker in a statement on Sunday said he was quoted out of context by some platforms saying he is against the presidential ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader.

Peller, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/ Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives submitted that he only demanded a fair and just process in choosing the candidate of the party.

He added that Tinubu remains a political father to him and they enjoy a good relationship, hence he has no reason to speak against the APC leader’s presidential ambition
