Belarus exercises ‘liberating territory’ on Poland’s border

The defence ministry announced on Thursday that Belarus has begun military drills in the northeastern district of Vitebsk, the capital Minsk, and the city of Brest close to the Polish border.

The exercises, which are scheduled to go until September 14, will simulate “liberating land briefly held by the enemy” and taking back control of border areas, according to the statement.

According to the ministry, they were not required to give notice in accordance with OSCE norms due to the number of troops and military hardware used in the exercise.

More on this breaking news story will be revealed soon.
