“Prisoner of Love,” which debuted on the streaming service Tubi on December 14, depicts the romance between Alabama prisons officer Vicky White and convicted killer Casey White, who eloped this year. Their escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center prompted a nationwide manhunt, which concluded eleven days later in Evansville, Indiana.
Vicky was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and she later died in a hospital. Meanwhile, Casey was arrested, extradited to Alabama, and charged with Vicky’s murder. The indictment said that Casey caused Vicky’s death in order to further his getaway. Casey pled not guilty to felony murder in October, but the trial has been delayed.
Casey White was apprehended eleven days after he and prison officer Vicky White escaped from Lauderdale County Detention Center.
The Whites, who were not related, allegedly made a suicide pact in which she would commit suicide and he would be killed in a gunfight with police. However, he was arrested without incident.
On April 29, Vicky, a five-time Employee of the Year recipient, drove away from the Lauderdale County Detention Center with Casey concealed in the backseat. It was later found that the two had a relationship that had bloomed behind prison.
“Prisoner of Love” was inspired by a true story, according to Tubi. A prison officer falls in love with an inmate and aids him in plotting his escape, leaving her community to ponder her decisions.
