Unvaccinated Kiwi travellers can now enter the country without needing to go into MIQ or self-isolate.
The ability to bypass isolation was previously limited to fully vaccinated travellers, with the unvaccinated required to spend seven days in MIQ and a further three self-isolating at home.
The Government quietly announced the change on Friday, March 18, and it came into effect at 11:59pm that day.
Unvaccinated New Zealanders who were in MIQ at the time of the change were released when it came into effect.
Vaccination requirements still apply to non-New Zealand citizens, including permanent residents, unless they have an exemption.
Testing requirements also remain the same.
People entering New Zealand must take a RAT on days zero/one and five/six and report the results.
If a traveller tests positive, they will need to undertake a PCR test and isolate.
MIQ will be used in limited circumstances, by some refugees, arrivals from Afghanistan, maritime crew, and some international aircrew.
