Suella Braverman’s email error had not been considered “honest” by Downing Street’s ethics staff

Home Secretary Suella Braverman faced new questions over her behaviour last night when it was revealed that Whitehall aides refused to let her’mistake’ of sending an official document to a Conservative MP to be labeled as ‘honest.’

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reappointed Ms. Braverman last week, barely six days after she resigned from the cabinet of Liz Truss for sending Sir John Hayes a document she claimed was a draft of a written ministerial statement.

Only because she copied in a woman she assumed to be Sir John’s wife did it become known.

The Mail on Sunday has learned that when Ms. Truss drafted her letter in response to Ms. Braverman’s resignation, the then-prime minister intended to describe her conduct as a “honest error.”

According to a source, members of No. 10’s Proprietary and Ethics Team removed the term because “they did not believe she had been truthful.”

During these negotiations about the language, Ms. Braverman withdrew her fiery letter urging Ms. Truss to accept responsibility and resign.

The disclosure follows accusations that officials wept when Ms. Braverman’s reappointment was revealed, with several requesting department transfers. According to reports, members of her tight protection team have also requested moves.

Staff at the Home Office reportedly referred to her as a “headbanger” due to her staunch attitude on immigration.

Ms. Braverman recently prevented Channel refugees from leaving a “overcrowded” detention center, contrary to the legal counsel of officials and junior Ministers.

There are also rumors that the Home Office intends to reduce the weekly amount of £40.85 per person that migrants presently get.

In a vote this week, Labour will attempt to compel the government to provide security and risk assessments regarding Ms. Braverman.
