FG to evacuate Nigerians stranded in Ukraine-Russia crisis on Wednesday

From Wednesday, March 2, the Nigerian government will begin evacuating Nigerians stranded in the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed this at a meeting with Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Monday, February 28.

He added that planes would be despatched for the evacuation procedure, revealing that the federal administration has finalized arrangements to begin the evacuation of citizens stranded as a result of the disaster.

“We plan to start evacuation hopefully Wednesday,” Onyeama said.

We’re doing everything we can to ensure that planes are dispatched for examination on Wednesday.”

The Minister also dismissed claims of racism and discrimination against Nigerians and other blacks trying to cross the Ukrainian border to other countries for safety.

Onyeama added;

“The advice then was for Nigerians to stay put, but as soon as the air strike started, most people started advancing towards the borders and this caused huge backlog of people who were walking 37 kilometers to the Polish border.“

And when I started hearing stories of racism and discrimination, I called the Ukrainian Minister and he said it had nothing to do with race.”
