Josh Lucas wants Reese Witherspoon to return to a place with such blue skies.
Entertainment Tonight reveals exclusively that Lucas is willing to return for a potential sequel to the 2002 hit “Sweet Home Alabama” if his co-star Reese Witherspoon is also interested in returning.
“I’d be delighted to. I campaigned for her. I wouldn’t say that she is the issue, but I believe that Reese’s busy schedule is a contributing factor,” stated the 51-year-old actress.
“I have every reason to believe that she wants to be a part of it. Creating this portion of her life is difficult for her. I do not have the same obligations or time limits, so I hope she can find the time to do it. I will attend tomorrow.”
The film, which marked its 20th anniversary in September, stars Reese Witherspoon as an aspiring fashion designer who goes home to announce her engagement to another man, only to discover that her ex-husband has not yet signed the divorce papers.
Lucas stated on Thursday that he is willing to reprise his role in a prospective sequel to the 2002 smash hit “Sweet Home Alabama” if his co-star Reese Witherspoon is also interested in reprising her role.
Lucas says he is incredibly happy of Witherspoon’s meteoric climb to fame, despite the possibility that it would delay the production of a sequel.
“When we were filming that movie, I had this moment where I thought, ‘Wow, this woman is incredibly intelligent and powerful,’” he recalled. Not only was she a terrific actress and comic, but she was also in her mid-20s at the time. I told the director and a few other individuals, “Reese is going to lead a movie studio.” They responded, “Really?”

In an October TODAY interview, Witherspoon stated that a sequel “would be a terrific idea.”
