A 10-year-old Oklahoma boy prevented his mother from drowning after she had a seizure in their backyard pool, and the family shared the dramatic security camera footage.
Gavin Keeney saved his mother, Lori, on August 5 in Enos, Oklahoma, marking the second time he was hero. In 2021, when his mother choked on food, he attempted the Heimlich maneuver and called 911.
In the video, Lori begins convulsing in their pool, prompting Gavin to race up the ladder and jump in.
Reportedly, he reaches his drowning mother and lifts her chin out of the water without calling for aid.
Gavin is unable to pull his mother from the pool, but his grandfather Stephen Lowe emerges at the end of the clip and is able to pull them both to safety.
Lori described it as “one of the most terrifying times of my life.”
The distressing clip shows Gavin bringing his mother to the pool’s edge as she gasps for breath following an epileptic seizure.
As Gavin attempted to pull his mother from the water, the family’s dogs alerted Lori’s father, who immediately went to assist.
Gavin saved his mother’s life for the first time in 2021, when she choked on a chip and he quickly did the Heimlich technique before contacting 911.
Lori’s father, Stephen Lowe, who lives next door, was alerted by the Keeneys’ dogs and went to her aid.
Lori told Storyful, “I later learned that he never requested assistance.” My father, who lives next door, heard the dogs barking and jumped in while Gavin held me on the ladder and kept my head above water.
Lori posted the video to Facebook and stated, “This morning, one of my worst nightmares came true.”
She stated that she was ‘hesitant’ to release the video because it was ‘very difficult’ to watch and she does not like ‘people to see me having a seizure’

Lori referred to her kid as her “little hero” and stated that while she was apprehensive to publish the video, she wanted to demonstrate Gavin’s bravery.
His mother remarked, “He’s been through so much with me and my health, yet he handles it with such grace and maturity.”
We believe I just ingested a small amount of water before Gavin grabbed me. I cannot believe what I just said. I cannot believe I am typing these words. She stated, “I CAN believe what I saw in Gavin, my little hero.”
In May 2021, as his mother began choking on a chip, Gavin was forced to perform the Heimlich maneuver to save her.
Gavin was unable to clear his mother’s airways, so he immediately dialed 911 and directed rescuers to his gasping mother.
“She was still breathing when we began the Heimlich maneuver,” recalled Chief Joshua Gilette of the Enos Volunteer Fire Department. “About three or four thrusts later, it fell loose,”
That day, Gavin’s fast thinking won him an honorary position with the Fire Department.
Keeney stated, “He’s been through so much with me and my health, and he handles it with such poise and maturity.” “Proud is not a sufficient term!”
