Elon Musk referred to the damaging admission that Twitter blocked conservative ideas as evidence that “the inmates were running the asylum” prior to his free speech reform.
Tuesday’s revelation of part two of “The Twitter Files” showing his $44 billion purchase’s past “hidden blacklists” prompted the world’s second-richest man to add his voice to the mounting condemnation.
However, he defended his predecessor, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who had previously stated, “We do not shadow ban, and we certainly do not shadow ban based on political views.”
Musk stated, “Jack has a pure heart imho,” abbreviating the phrase “in my view.”
Musk asserted that controversial decisions were frequently taken without Jack’s permission and that he was unaware of widespread bias.

“The prisoners were running the asylum,” he claimed of the majority of awakened staff who have left or been fired since he assumed over.
One commenter responded: “If he didn’t know what was happening within his own organization, he was a horrible leader.”
Musk asserted that former owner Jack Dorsey was unaware of the blacklisting, defending his “clean heart.”
In addition to his support for the damaging exposé about his company, Musk offered additional information for anyone affected.
“Twitter is working on a software update that will reveal your genuine account status, so you’ll know if you’ve been shadowbanned, why, and how to appeal,” Musk tweeted on Thursday.
In the midst of rising outcry, including from a number of persons identified as having their voices muted, Musk also addressed those who welcomed his decision to be transparent about the deplorable policy and his efforts to alter it.
In a tweet, he promised, “Twitter will not be flawless in the future, but it will be *much* better.”
He predicted that ultimately “the far right and far left will splinter off Twitter into useless echo bubbles” and quipped about his competitors, “Extremists have already flocked to such platforms as… I forgot their names.”
