NATO rejects Ukraine calls for no-fly zone

According to a report by Reuters, Europe promised more sanctions to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which Russia invaded by land, sea and air on Feb. 24.

Zelensky strongly criticised the decision by NATO to reject his calls, saying the alliance had given Russia the green light to continue its bombing campaign.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg reportedly said they are not part of his conflict, in denying Ukraine’s request.

“We have a responsibility as NATO allies to prevent this war from escalating beyond Ukraine because that would be even more dangerous, more devastating and would cause even more human suffering,” Stoltenberg reportedly said following a NATO meeting in Brussels.

‘THE WORST WAS YET TO COME’

He added that the worst was yet to come as Russia was rolling out more heavy arms.

“The days to come are likely to be worse, with more deaths, more suffering and more destruction,” he said.

Zelensky said nuclear terrorism required decisive action in response.

He tweeted on Friday evening: At the #UN Security Council meeting, we called for closing the sky over 🇺🇦 and launching an operation to maintain peace and security. The goal is to save hazardous facilities. The world must not watch, but help!
