Gabriel is taking charge of his restaurant and running with it. After assuming a larger role in his firm, he’s revamping the location, and Emily watches as he draws inspiration from his grandmother, Gigi, the namesake of his business (who very clearly favors Emily over Camille).
After Gabriel got engaged in the previous episode, he and Camille are holding a party to celebrate. Emily, Alfie, Mindy, and Nicolas are invited by Camille, who is enduring an uncomfortable time with Gigi in Gabriel’s kitchen.
Emily is attempting to help Gabriel obtain his ideal Michelin star that day at work, and Luc’s ex-wife is a Michelin inspector. He plots and texts her as Emily leaves for lunch with Mindy. While dining there, they observe Camille and Sofia openly arguing, but they soon cease when they realize they are being watched. After a slightly awkward but ultimately warm greeting, Emily and Mindy depart, and Mindy immediately states that Emily must interfere now that Sofia is back in Paris for “business.”
At Gabriel’s restaurant that evening, Luc arrives with his ex-girlfriend Marianne, whom he has asked to sample Gabriel’s cuisine. Mindy, Alfie, and Emily are also present, and Emily tries to subtly inform Gabriel that he has an important guest that evening, but he seems oblivious.
Alfie is revealing to Mindy what actually occurred when Emily unexpectedly departed Mindy’s party. Mindy initially does not trust him, but is quickly persuaded and apologizes to Emily for the way her jerk boyfriend treated her. Just end the relationship already!
After dinner, a very dramatic confrontation happens at Nicolas’ residence, where Mindy calls him out for getting into a “fistfight” with Emily, and then tells him to “reconsider” their relationship before leaving.
While we wait for Nicolas’ response, the day of Gabriel and Camille’s engagement party arrives, and Emily wears one of her season’s best looks: a floral-ruffled dress. Mindy and her terrible fashion sense are nowhere to be found; instead, she is at home awaiting a text message from Nicolas, who has not responded to her since their argument. Apparently, they agreed to meet and attend the party together, but he is not keeping his end of the bargain.
Mindy receives a knock at the door from Benoit, who, in a completely strange turn of circumstances, has been selected for Eurovision…which means Mindy has been selected as well. Mindy is delighted when he explains that he submitted the song that Emily wanted to use in a commercial for sunscreen to the singing competition. She is so ecstatic that she almost kisses him, but her phone interrupts them.
Emily returns to the party, walks inside for a drink, and hears Camille discussing “figuring things out” on the phone. Naturally, she asks if Sofia was on the line and admits that she witnessed the two of them kissing. Camille tells her, “Our secrets are what will keep us close,” which is a bizarre statement to make at your engagement party regarding your hidden lover. She dismisses Emily’s fears and leaves, and minutes later, they are all sitting around a table like a large, celebratory gathering.
Mindy tries to upstage the entire party by coming by helicopter with Nicolas, who survived after all, just as Camille’s father is giving a toast to the newlyweds. As they disembark, Nicolas apologizes to Emily, and she accepts his apology, so it appears that all is well between these two adversaries (at least for the time being). I have no faith in Nicolas.
Later that evening, Emily receives a phone call at the party from Luc, who is back at Gabriel’s restaurant with his ex-girlfriend, who informs Emily that Gabriel is “destined for a Michelin star.” Gabriel, upon hearing the news, is practically dripping with joy and tells Emily, “You came to drab Paris and provided sunshine for all of us.” Again, a bizarre thing to say about your ex-lover during your engagement party.
Camille sees him kissing Emily’s hand and hugging her, which upsets her. However, she appears to be okay when he finds her a little later and tells her that he wants to get married immediately due to his excitement over the Michelin news.
The happy ending, right? Very incorrect. Camille breaks down during the ceremony in the chapel, revealing that she and Gabriel are only together because she knew he was in love with Emily, before revealing the terms of their pact. She stayed with him to protect Emily from Gabriel, but now that she sees Gabriel and Emily are obviously in love, she cannot marry him.
After hearing Camille’s entire speech, Alfie follows her out the door and tells Emily that he’s not going to be her second option, so she should go find her man. Cold but accurate Despite the fact that I feel a little sorry for him given that they just revealed their relationship in the previous episode, it appears that the past is now firmly behind us. These two cannot be saved even by a romantic hot air balloon.
Emily and Gabriel reconvene outside after being dumped by their respective lovers, and she tells him that she always had feelings for him despite believing the deal was “the right thing.” Gabriel then throws the bombshell that Camille is pregnant, which is the reason they actually got engaged.
What repercussions does this have on Gabriel and Camille? Nothing worthwhile, if you ask me. Emily in Paris has already been renewed for a fourth season on Netflix, so there’s still a lot more to this narrative.
