  • Whoopi Goldberg REPEATED the Holocaust slur that led to her suspension from The View

Whoopi Goldberg has once again argued that the Holocaust had nothing to do with race, saying that the Nazis ‘were not killing races’ and reiterating the stance that led to her suspension from her $8 million-a-year post as co-host of The View in February.

Survivor children in the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau after the liberation, 1945. Godlberg said it wasn't an act of racism because it involved two white groups
The Oscar-winning actress was suspended from The View in February for claiming that the Holocaust was not about race, but rather ‘white on white brutality’ and’man’s inhumanity to man’ – and the interviewer was instructed beforehand not to bring up the talk show.

When it was pointed out that the Nazis undoubtedly believed the Holocaust was a racial issue, Goldberg readily reiterated her contentious remarks.

She told The Times of London, “Yes, but that’s the murderer, isn’t it?”

“The oppressor is describing who you are.” Why do you believe their claims? These individuals are Nazis. Why should you believe what they say?’

She stated that the Holocaust “was not initially about race.”

Remember who they murdered first. They were not committing racial genocide, but rather physical genocide. They were murdering those they deemed intellectually deficient. Then they reached this conclusion.

She stated that being Jewish was not a race in the same way that being black was, because it was not identifiable.

In February, Goldberg claimed on The View that the Holocaust was “not about race” because it involved “two white sets of people.” In a fresh interview, she reiterated her assertions.

Whoopi Goldberg appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and attempted to explain her controversial remarks about the Holocaust

Children who survived Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp after its liberation in 1945. Godlberg stated that it was not a racist act because two white groups were involved.

She stated, “It does not alter the reality that you could not identify a Jew on the street.” You could locate me. You could not locate them. This was the point I was trying to make.

“But you would have thought I had defecated naked on the table,” the speaker says. The celebrity was born Caryn Elaine Johnson, and she claims that her stage name is a reference to her Jewish roots.

Goldberg, 67, was speaking to The Times of London to promote her new film Till, and she returned to the controversial territory she had previously explored, questioning the biology of transgender people, claiming she was not sexually harassed as an actress because she was intimidating and black, and expressing confusion as to why sexually abused actresses “just took it.”

Goldberg was also recently entangled in a dispute regarding transgender persons, and was accused of transphobia after stating, during a conversation about abortion, that “guys don’t have eggs.”

When asked about the dispute, Goldberg responded, “But males don’t have eggs.”

When the interviewer stated that trans males, who are biologically female, have eggs, Goldberg responded, ‘They may have eggs, but they are incapable of becoming pregnant. Do they? I believe you need to make some adjustments in order to fertilize those eggs. I have questions, however, because I was taught that trans males still have prostates.

A white artist depicted Emmett Till, the subject of Goldberg’s new film, in a painting exhibited at the Whitney in New York City last year, sparking controversy.

Some opponents stated that a white person should not use the pain of blacks for artistic purposes.

    Goldberg disagreed.

She answered, “Well, they said the same thing about Steven Spielberg shooting The Color Purple.”

I do not believe you must be [black] to recognize and empathize. But I am that.’

She stated that there must be a discussion about casting in order to achieve opportunity and representation equality.

She stated, “As an actor, I like to feel like I can do anything; I can play anyone.”

And I now realize that there are things I should probably not do or be.

    She added, “You believe,”

Wait a minute. Yes, I could do it, but who else is available?

And sometimes it’s difficult because you don’t want to let go.

‘However, sometimes you must, because you must train people to hire Asian actors’

During an interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this spring, Goldberg attempted to apologize for stating, “The Holocaust is not about race,” but he outraged more individuals.

Whoopi Goldberg came on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show and attempted to defend her infamous Holocaust statements.

Goldberg revealed to Colbert that her Holocaust words caused her “a great deal of damage.”

She stated, “When you talk about being a racist, you cannot call this racism.” This was wicked. Not dependent on skin color. It was impossible to discern who was Jewish. You were required to dig deep and figure it out. They were required to do the work.

If the Klan is coming down the street and I am with a Jewish buddy, I will flee, but if my friend decides not to run, they will be passed by most of the time because it is impossible to discern who is Jewish. You have no idea.’

Her appearance on Colbert, where she also promoted her return to the Star Trek series, occurred hours after she issued an apology earlier that day for her remarks, which triggered global uproar.

The Holocaust involved the methodical extermination of the Jewish people, whom the Nazis considered an inferior race. I accept your correction,’ she tweeted.

My support for the Jewish people around the world has never wavered and never will. I apologize for the harm I have caused.

During the interview, she also stated, ‘As a black woman, I perceive race to be a completely different concept.

So I stated that I did not believe the Holocaust was about race. And this got many furious. I am receiving a great deal of correspondence from individuals, as well as a great deal of rage.

But I believed it was an important conversation because, as a black person, I perceive race as something I can see.

The Academy Award-winning actress and comedian who was born in Manhattan and has hosted The View since 2007 told Colbert that she received a great deal of criticism for her remarks.

Goldberg stated, “It was never, ever, ever my goal to disturb so many people.”

People were really outraged and stated, “No, we are a race.” And I understand. I felt differently. I value every word that is spoken to me. I do not wish to fabricate an apology.

I am quite disturbed that my words were misconstrued. And as a result, they accuse me of being anti-Semitic, denying the Holocaust, and all the other things I would never consider doing. I believed we were having a race-related conversation, like everyone else.

Goldberg, who is well-known for her bold and controversial remarks, revealed to Colbert that her Holocaust words caused her “a great deal of damage.”

People decided that I was a particular way. Furthermore, I am not,’ she insisted. “I’m upset that others perceive me in this manner. I brought it on myself.

This is my thought process, and I will strive not to think this way in the future.

Goldberg ignited the tempest during a panel discussion with her View co-hosts regarding the Tennessee school board’s decision to prohibit the graphic novel Maus, winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

The book by Art Spiegelman about the Nazi atrocities his parents endured has become a curriculum “anchor text” and is used in schools across the country.

“Let’s be honest about it,” she stated.

“The Holocaust has nothing to do with race. It is unrelated to race. It is unrelated to race. It is unrelated to race. It is about the inhumanity of man to man. That’s the crux of the matter.

Co-hosts Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, and Sarah Haines fought with her, but she remained unapologetic.

“These are two groups of white people. You have missed the mark. As soon as you make it a competition, it goes down this alley. Let’s call it what it is: how people treat one another,’ Goldberg stated.

On both sides of the Atlantic, Goldberg’s statements were met with scorn, with many slamming the actress for her mistake.

A non-profit organization, Stop Antisemitism, tweeted: “Breaking news @WhoopiGoldberg.

We were gassed, starved, and murdered by the Nazis because they viewed us as an inferior race. How dare you belittle our agony and trauma!’

The Auschwitz Memorial in Poland tweeted a hyperlink to a Holocaust history.

“@WhoopiGoldberg, the Holocaust is the genocide of European Jews.”

A seven-chapter online course about the Holocaust’s history. Links to each chapter are included in the tweet.

Goldberg has a history of supporting wife-beaters, race-baiters, and even a serial rapist. She began her career as a stand-up comedian and in avant-garde theatrical troupes.

However, she remains a co-host of the famous daytime show because her unrestrained rants are frequently must-see television.

Throughout her tumultuous career, the Academy Award winner and one of only 16 persons to have won a ‘EGOT’ – an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony – has remained steadfastly contentious.

  • Kate Walsh Analyzes the Funniest Madeline Scene in ‘Emily in Paris’: “The Pigeons Were Insane”

The third season of Emily in Paris on Netflix offers an impressive coup d’état. No coup… Because, you know, pigeons.

If you have not yet viewed Season 3, Episode 3, “Coup D’état,” you may wish to stop reading to prevent spoilers. If you’re caught up on Sylvie’s complex plan to get her old Savoir office back, then continue reading to hear actor Kate Walsh analyze one of the show’s most hilarious scenes. The event did involve pigeons. The pigeons were indeed real.

“The pigeons were psychotic. We had one trained and one untrained pigeon. Who believes they can operate with pigeons? Not me, Walsh quipped to Decider during a Zoom interview.

In this episode, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) befriends her former building manager, Henri, in an attempt to get Emily (Lily Collins) and Madeline (Walsh) out of her old office space. So that Emily and Madeline will leave the office, he agrees to treat them “like vermin.” He raises the temperature to an intolerable level and unleashes a pigeon, sending Emily and Madeline into a spin.

Prior to Madeline’s key Zoom meeting with Chicago Gilbert Group officials, the pigeon is expelled from the room after a spirited struggle. But when Madeline phones in to the video chat, she learns she still has the cat filter active from Emily’s pet food advertising pitch and cannot remove it.

While Madeline anxiously attempts to avoid becoming a cartoon kitten, the pigeon returns to wreak havoc on her phone call. After yelling for Emily, using the F-word, and hurling perfectly fine croissants across the room to deal with the turmoil, Madeline’s call ends abruptly, and she is humiliated.

According to promotional materials for Emily in Paris, “the pigeon catastrophe scenario in the Savoir office was inspired by a similar incident that occurred in the writers’ room during Season 1.” And of course, the cat filter gaffe was inspired by the viral video of real-life Texas attorney Rod Ponton, who joined a video chat with a cat filter activated and was unable to disengage it. As the pigeon terrorizes their workspace, Collins and Walsh demonstrate a mastery of physical comedy by screaming, squirming, shooing, and attempting to maintain composure. Walsh stated that filming the scene was just as entertaining as seeing it.

“Alright, the pigeons and the cat filter…

You remember during COVID the cat filter, which was a popular meme. When I originally read the script, I was excited, but I also wondered, “Will this work?” Because it was so amusing in real life with that elderly gentleman, and because it was so hysterical, I’m concerned that this won’t be as funny. But that was so hilarious! “I had a great time filming it,” Walsh remarked.

Momentarily, you may question if that frenzied pigeon is computer-generated. But no. Walsh and Collins utilized actual birds to ensure the authenticity of the scene. “The pigeons were psychotic. We had one trained and one untrained pigeon. Who believes they can operate with pigeons? Not me, laughed Walsh. “But we leaned in, and so did those pigeons. They delivered it. “The pigeons delivered it.”

Walsh continued by stating that she and Collins had “a great time” filming the unique sequence, despite being truly terrified at times. “It was a lot of fun. And Lily was a lot of fun. “It was quite natural, and I believe we both screamed pretty realistically when the wild animal entered the set,” she explained.

The third season of Emily in Paris is now available on Netflix.

  • This Santa rides a camel around Jerusalem every year. Here’s why

null / Credit: Issa Anis Kassisieh

    Rome Newsroom, Dec 23, 2022 / 10:00 am (CNA).

Every year on the feast of St. Nicholas, Issa Anis Kassisieh dons a red suit, black boots, and a thick white beard. He mounts a camel in the outskirts of Jerusalem and rides into the streets of the Old City.

The 44-year-old Orthodox Christian, a former soccer pro who played in Europe and the United States, coaches basketball at his local YMCA.

But every December for 16 years, he has become the “Jerusalem Santa.”

Kassisieh told ACI MENA, CNA’s Middle Eastern news partner, that while Santa Claus is an invented figure, his motive as a Christian for dressing up as the character is to remind people that the feast of Christmas celebrates an event that took place in the Middle East — the birth of Christ.

The family of this Middle Eastern Father Christmas has lived in Jerusalem for almost 900 years. For Kassisieh, being Jerusalem Santa is a way to also remind people of the more than 2,000-year history of the Christian presence in the Middle East.

Kassisieh first stumbled on his Jerusalem Santa role after dressing up as the jolly Christmas character for his own children, following in the footsteps of his father. He started walking around the Old City of Jerusalem in the costume, and he was surprised to notice how much joy it brought to both children and adults.

A few years ago, Kassisieh decided to not only dress as Santa Claus but also to enter Jerusalem on the back of a camel as a reminder of the entrance of the three Magi, or wise men, into that ancient city on their way to the Christ Child.

In 2017, he also opened up a space inside a 700-year-old building as a permanent “workshop” where he could welcome children and families.

Kassisieh is now an internationally-recognized Santa: In 2015, he received the title of “Santa’s Global Ambassador for the Holy Land” from The Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School, established in 1937.

He has also collaborated with Israel’s Tourism Ministry to film videos of Jerusalem Santa sending Christmas greetings from important Christian religious sites in Israel. In one video, Kassisieh wishes “joy and peace” to the children of the Holy Land from a boat on the Jordan River.

  • Yung Miami claims Diddy’s child was not a’surprise’ “Communication is crucial”

This month, Sean “Diddy” Combs astonished his Twitter followers by announcing the birth of his daughter Love in October, but his girlfriend, Yung Miami, was not surprised.

When G Herbo, a guest on the “Caresha, Please” podcast, questioned the rapper on Thursday if she knew about the infant, she chuckled.

The 28-year-old, whose real name is Caresha Brownlee, clarified, “Yes, I did.” “I believe communication is crucial… when interacting with a person. It was not exactly a surprise.”

Brownlee continued by describing herself as a “genuine whore” whom her lovers can “bring anything to.”

She continued, “Men are so terrified of being forward with the facts. They try to lie a lot, so you must demonstrate, “I’m a real person.” I am actually like that.”

When Herbo, age 27, inquired about the City Girls member’s plans for her own pregnancy, she responded, “I’m f–king, so if it happens, I’ll do it. I’m not taking no Plan B [pills].”

The songwriter is already the mother of Jai, 9 years old, and Summer, 3 years old, from previous relationships with Jai Wiggins and Southside, respectively.

The record executive already had six children when she and Combs revealed their relationship in June: Quincy, 31, Justin, 28, King, 24, Chance, 16, and the twins D’Lila and Jessie, all 16.

The founder of Bad Boy Records welcomed Love in October, but waited two months before announcing the birth.

The birth certificate identified Dana Tran, a 28-year-old cybersecurity specialist, as the child’s mother, despite the fact that Combs’ announcement did not name her.

“I am very honored to bring my daughter Love Sean Combs into the world,” the “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper tweeted on December 10. “Mama Combs, Quincy, Justin, Christian, Chance, D’Lila, and I adore you tremendously! God is the Supreme Being!”

Combs, 53, clarified to haters later that week that Brownlee is not his “side lady.”

The Grammy winner said, “She is quite significant and meaningful to me, and I don’t joke about my Shawty Wop. I do not engage in online discussion, and I will not begin now.

“Know that if you do anything to harm my family, I will come to your house and we will discuss it like adults,” he said. “LOVE.”

  • Tory Lanez’s dad and stepmom criticize Jay-Z after Megan Thee Stallion conviction

Tory Lanez’s father blames Jay-Z for his son’s conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot, because in June of this year, Jay-Z signed Megan to his label.

Outside of court, Sonstar Peterson, real name Daystar Peterson, the father of Lanez, accused Jay-Z of having ‘sold and bartered the souls of young men.’

He may have meant that Jay-record Z’s label covered Megan Thee Stallion’s legal bills, although it was unclear what he meant.

She claimed that Lanez shot her in the foot in July 2020, and Lanez was found guilty of all three crimes on Friday.

When the verdict was read, the 30-year-old musician, who was facing up to 18 years in prison, showed no reaction.

Outside in court, his father screamed that the verdict was “the worst miscarriage of justice in the history of the planet.”

With his wife yelling that Beyonce was also to blame, Peterson shouted against what he perceived to be an injustice.

He stated, “I have seen so much proof hidden in this.”

“I know exactly what the public will say here.” You will assert that I state this because I am a parent.

“As you can see, I am the father of hundreds of children over the world.”

“I am a biological father to my children, but a spiritual father to many.”

And I don’t fabricate ridiculous accusations because I have nothing else to do.

Peterson stated, “I am calling on all Americans to begin to rise up because your sons are being mistreated.”

Additionally, Lanez’s stepmother yelled to the camera, “Beyoncé and Jay-Z, you have children!”

“As you can see, you are putting others in jail.” You have kids. God is observing.

Peterson pointed at the judge and jury as the verdict was read and yelled, “This is horrible, you are wicked!” The ultimate level of wickedness.

As others joined in, yelling ‘appeal’ and ‘that’s messed up man,’ sheriff’s deputies barked at the loudest to calm down, and were joined by a dozen more deputies who held some spectators and press hostage in the courtroom while a brawl in the corridor outside was subdued.

Some of Lanez’s female supporters, wearing a pink coat over a white turtleneck and pink pants, wept openly as he sat next to his defense team, looking stunned.

His stepmother yelled, “We love you baby!” as he was led away in handcuffs to be held in custody until his sentencing on January 27, which was scheduled by Judge David Herriford.

After a 10-day trial, a Los Angeles jury of seven women and five men deliberated for a day and a half before convicting Lanez of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, discharging a firearm in a highly negligent manner, and carrying a hidden firearm in a vehicle.

Assault is punishable by up to nine years in prison, careless discharge of a firearm by up to three years, and carrying a concealed firearm by three years.

The jury also determined that Lanez inflicted “severe bodily injury”; Megan had three bullet fragments surgically removed from her foot. As a result, the assault and negligent shooting charges have additional penalties that could add six years to Lanez’s sentence.

The musician Daystar Peterson, who was born in Canada, also faces the possibility of deportation. He entered not guilty pleas for all three charges.

Megan, 27, told the jury in her heartbreaking testimony last week that she and Lanez, with whom she had been having a sexual connection, were in Lanez’s SUV in the Hollywood Hills with Megan’s assistant and closest friend, Kelsey Harris, when a fight broke out.

Megan, whose real name is Megan Pete, urged the driver to pull over and exited the vehicle, at which point she claims Lanez yelled “Dance b—ch” and shot a gun five times at her, causing her feet to be so severely injured that she required surgery.

In addition, she stated that Lanez promised her and Harris $1 million to remain silent about the incident.

Lanez later apologized to her, explaining that he was intoxicated during the incident.

The jury rejected the defense team’s allegation that Harris fired the gun in a fit of jealousy and rage at Megan after learning that the singer had ‘backstabbed’ her by sleeping with Lanez, with whom Kelsey was also connected.

In his closing arguments, deputy district attorney Alexander Bott told the court, “This is a case involving a guy who shot a girl and then apologized for it.”

Megan testified on the first day of the trial that she felt suicidal following the shooting and compared the consequences of identifying Lanez as the gunman to ‘torture.’

She has been subjected to a storm of online abuse from Lanez’s supporters, who have accused her of lying.

Megan told the court, “I cannot even be joyful.”

I cannot carry on lengthy talks with individuals. I do not desire to exist on this planet.

If I had known I would be subjected to such torture, I would have wished he had simply shot me dead.

Shortly after the prosecution and defense concluded their closing arguments on Thursday afternoon, Judge David Herringford sent the jury of seven women and five men to the jury room. The consensus was unanimous.

Lanez, attired in a pink suit and white turtleneck sweater, came in downtown Los Angeles criminal court on Thursday with his five-year-old son Kai, who was spotted earlier in the trial attending proceedings with his father.

After the incident, Lanez’s admirers argued online that Megan was unharmed, but Dr. Lee Haruno, head orthopedic surgery resident at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, testified last week that bullet pieces were extracted from both of Megan’s feet.

Lanez’s attorney, George Mgdesyan, who has called Megan a liar, accused the prosecution of attempting to tarnish his client’s reputation and portray him as a nasty guy. A black hip-hop artist.

“They want you to jump to a conclusion in order to prosecute a black man.” It makes more sense for a black man to shoot a black woman. But it was Kelsey who shot her friend.’

Mgdesyan responded when asked why the chief investigator in the case only took Lanez’s DNA and not that of the other passengers in the car: ‘Because he’s the celebrity. “He is Tory Lanez,”

The prosecution wants you to believe Megan, who lied to you, or Kelsey, who took the Fifth Amendment.

‘Why would Megan lie?’ Mgdesyan asked earlier.

“Megan and Tory are both artists. Whose shooting of you is more noteworthy, Kelsey Harris or Tory Lanez?”

Megan has a reputation; she is known as Megan Thee Stallion. Kelsey discovered that her best friend was cheating on her with her boyfriend, so she shot her. What would Megan The Stallion think about that?

In addition, he reminded the jury of Sean Kelly’s testimony, in which he stated that he witnessed Harris stop fighting Megan and return to the SUV before shooting erupted.

Mgdesyan stated, “The evidence suggests that Kelsey’s luggage had the firearm.”

Adding that the prosecution’s evidence was “riddled with flaws,” he continued, “My client did not intentionally draw and shoot the gun.” Therefore, his DNA is not present on the rifle.

There is no proof that my client fired a gun.

My client was attempting to prevent Kelsey from shooting Megan by gripping her hand.

He was attempting to rescue Megan.

Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta ridiculed the defense’s argument that Kelsey shot Megan out of jealousy over their sexual rivalry for Lanez.

Instead, she informed the jury that Lanez shot Megan in a rage over their respective musical talents.

“The defendant, not Megan, is on trial,” Ta stated in her response to the defense’s closing arguments.

The defendant’s ego was wounded because Megan was more successful than he was.

She disrespected him as a rapper, which infuriated him. How dare she degrade him and then walk away from him after exiting the vehicle?

So he asserted his power once more.

  • Women and children maintained quiet during the 1926 General Strike

These breathtaking images of Britain’s largest labor dispute demonstrate how Middle Englanders, including women and children, managed to remain composed and go on despite the mayhem as strikes threaten to ruin millions of people’s holidays and beyond.

During the 1926 General Strike, militant strikers beat police officers, set a London bus on fire, and even attacked fellow workers who dared to break ranks.

The walkout by more than 1.7 million employees throughout the nation caused havoc in the steel, printing, and transportation sectors.

Nearly a century later, as a result of this month’s strikes by train unions, nurses, paramedics, border agents, highway workers, and other groups, Britain is again experiencing a similar level of mayhem.

Travel mayhem is affecting millions of people this week as they attempt to return home for the Christmas holiday.

Strikes have plagued the previous six months, hurting people from various sectors of life, including barristers, transportation, and healthcare employees.

As millions of employees want better wages and working conditions in the face of rising prices, many of the strikes will continue into the new year.

Miners were the first to strike in 1926 over working conditions, and other sectors quickly followed. The strike lasted nine days and sent the nation into a financial crisis.

The pay of miners were to be cut by 13% by mine owners. They also wanted to work an additional hour every day in shifts.

If the mine owners ceased their projected wage reductions, the government agreed to subsidize the mining sector for nine months.

The nine months came to a conclusion on April 30th, 1926, and the Trades Union Congress suggested a strike on May Day the following day.

Just days later, when negotiations between the Trades Union Congress and the then-Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin failed, a strike was declared.

The walkout was denounced as a “assault on democracy” by the government, headed by Prime Minister Baldwin, and even the Roman Catholic Church called it a “sin.”

Some of these images demonstrate how volunteers maintained the nation’s transportation and electrical systems.

The Organization for the Maintenance of Supplies, which sought to replace the striking employees’ employment, provided some 100,000 of these volunteers. They gave their time voluntarily to manage international enterprises.

On the first day of the strike, the Women’s Auxiliary Service also said that they would establish an emergency corps of women to care for the welfare of women and children.

The Guardian, formerly known as the Manchester Guardian, extensively covered the disagreement at the time of the strike.

A newspaper article from May 4, 1926, described a rush on bicycle and candle stores.

According to the report, two buses in Glasgow were turned over when hooligans forced the passengers off.

But in Edinburgh, a large group of people broke store windows before robbing the establishments. Police men on horses and walking were attacked with bottles and stones.

In the altercations, five police officers suffered significant injuries.

In the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, a police horse rushed into the railings, killing the animal and gravely injuring the rider. One police sergeant was even cut on the back with a razor.

A burned-out bus is seen being carried through the streets of Elephant and Castle, London. This incident occurred mere days later on May 7, the same day that London taxi drivers joined the strike.

A sizable group of roughs assembled in the area, and one part of them stopped a bus traveling down St. George’s Road, forced the passengers, driver, and conductor to get out, and then lit the bus on fire, according to The Daily Telegraph.

  • IRS postpones tax rules implementation

The Internal Revenue Service has postponed plans to require millions of Americans to disclose Venmo, PayPal, and other third-party payment app transactions above $600 after it acknowledged “confusion” about the divisive policy.

According to the American Rescue Plan of the Biden Administration, businesses must provide a 1099-K form to clients who have received “gross payments for products or services that exceed $600.”

The legislation aims to formalize how earnings are reported since they are already taxed and to combat fraud. But on Friday, the IRS announced a one-year delay in the rule’s application.

“The extended time will help decrease uncertainty during the upcoming 2023 tax filing season and allow more time for taxpayers to plan and comprehend the new reporting obligations,” said acting IRS Commissioner Doug O’Donnell.

The IRS must be notified by e-commerce platforms about consumers whose revenue surpasses $600 using a 1099-K tax form under the new tax reporting regulations.

According to the existing regulations, this is only applicable to those with at least $20,000 in income and more than 200 transactions in a calendar year.

Users that fulfill the requirements get a 1099-K tax form from the firms, and they are responsible for include the amounts when determining their taxable income. Errors can result in an IRS audit.

Millions of Americans’ tax returns would now be subject to a new level of bureaucracy, according to critics of the proposal.

The new regulation is intended especially for business and side hustle transactions, so it probably won’t apply to you if you’re giving money to a buddy or getting a one-time payment.

Once the law changes, you will only need to declare payments if you earn a profit on purchases totaling more than $600, not if you lose money.

Therefore, the new rule won’t apply to you if you are selling a couch used for less than you purchased for it, for instance.

The IRS said that taxpayers who are covered by the new rule will get a 1099-K form from each third-party payment company they did business with.

Republican senators who warned that people who earned money outside of business operations would be impacted have stoked concerns about the tax shift.

Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee criticized the move in a statement earlier this week, saying that it would lead to “more scrutiny from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)” whether someone “sold a sofa, re-sold tickets at the amount you bought, or simply performed some additional work on the side.”

While taxpayers who made money by selling a sofa or tickets would not be impacted if they do not make a profit, individuals who performed “work on the side” would have to record their profits if they surpassed $600 since it comes under the category of taxable income.

In an effort to allay these worries, PayPal recently reiterated that typical use of their platform—or Venmo’s—would not expose taxpayers to IRS inspection.

PayPal issued a statement stating, “This doesn’t cover things like paying your family or friends back using PayPal or Venmo for meals, presents, or joint vacations.”

“You should take into account the amounts reflected on your Form 1099-K when determining gross revenues for your income tax return for the 2022 tax year,” PayPal said. “Both our report and your report will be cross-referenced by the IRS.”

When does the IRS get notice of a $600 Venmo or PayPal payment?

Taxpayers are obliged to submit a 1099-K for “gross payments for goods or services that exceed $600” under the American Rescue Plan of the Biden Administration.

The IRS has postponed the move by a year in order to “minimize conducion,” which was originally scheduled to effect tax returns in 2022.

As a result, anybody who gets more than $600 as part of a business or side hustle transaction using third-party payment applications like Venmo and PayPal will have to declare the proceeds as taxable income.

There is no need to record transactions made by users who use the applications to send money to relatives and friends.

Only if you earn a profit will you be liable to the new rules if you sell anything online for more than $600.

The third-party payment platform will provide evidence of the relevant transactions, and every firm the taxpayer transacted with will send them a 1099-K form.

Along with a breakdown of the monthly revenue, the form displays how much the account has earned via its services.

Inaccuracies could result in an IRS audit, so the payment platforms have advised users to keep copies of their transactions and check the forms to make sure the amount is correct.

  • Storm-caused transformer explosion in Kansas City knocks off electricity

A power transformer erupts into sparks on a roadway in Missouri at this terrible moment as ferocious winds and subfreezing temperatures sweep through the Midwest.

On Thursday night, just outside of Kansas City in the Liberty area, an electrical box explosion caused a massive explosion that lighted up the night sky like fireworks.

After the electricity went out, adjacent buildings became completely black while the outside temperature fell to bone-chilling levels.

As the massive storm passed through, more than 2,000 customers were affected, leaving homes in a snowy and icy region without heat. The winter weather has caused widespread turmoil, leaving more than 1.5 million people without electricity nationwide.

As the wind chill dropped to an astonishing – 32 degrees on Thursday night, crews were fast to reach the explosion scene on Highway 291.

In certain areas of the state, the wind chill was expected to reach a low of minus 24 degrees on Friday.

Six states, including New York, have declared state emergencies as the storm moved east overnight and into Friday morning.

Two-thirds of the nation is now experiencing some kind of severe weather warning, including strong winds, floods, and sharp temperature dips.

Around 12,000 Midwest customers lost power as a result of the storm, 8,000 of them were in the Wichita, Kansas, region, according to energy firm Evergy’s report on Thursday.

According to a report out of Topeka, the neighborhood’s electricity went out the day the storm passed through at 5.30 am.

As the temperature dropped below zero, Evergy technicians arrived on the location at 7.30 am and had electricity restored by 10.45 am.

As the storm moves from state to state, it has been claimed that accidents and at least six fatalities have occurred throughout the US, severely interrupting millions of Americans’ holiday travel plans.

Up to two-thirds of US flights might be postponed or cancelled, according to predictions. On Friday morning, several bus routes and Amtrak train service reported alterations and cancellations throughout the nation.

Another 3,000 US planes have been canceled and over 10,000 have been delayed only on Friday.
