    CNA Newsroom, Dec 20, 2022 / 16:45 pm (CNA).

The bishop of Istmina-Tadó, Colombia, Mario Álvarez Gómez, called on the various armed groups in his country to observe a “unilateral cease-fire” to “celebrate Christmas in peace” and commit to the pacification of the country with concrete actions.

The prelate referred to the National Liberation Army (ELN), “the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, the Mexican Revolutionary Forces, and the RPS-Cartel del Norte Armed Forces,” which operate in the Chocó district, where the Diocese of Istmina-Tadó is located.

The Mexican Revolutionary Forces is a Colombian crime gang that idolizes famous Mexican drug lords.

“A clear sign of sincere desire for peace must be manifested in respect for life; an end to extortion; the disappearance of borders or invisible barriers; [and] the recruitment and exploitation of boys, girls, adolescents, and young people,” Álvarez Gómez said.

In his statement, the bishop said that the diocese encourages, “with immense hope, the willingness of the national government and the ELN to initiate humanitarian relief in our territory that will bring us calm and encouragement to continue in the struggle for peace.”

The Diocese of Istmina-Tadó also encouraged “continuing the implementation of the ‘Final Agreement for the Termination of the Conflict and the Construction of a Stable and Lasting Peace,’” signed in 2016 between the Colombian State and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) before of its official dissolution.

“Therefore, we call on the ex-combatants of the FARC and the three branches of government of the Colombian State to be faithful to the fulfillment of what was agreed to and not betray the dreams of the victims of achieving truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees it won’t be repeated again,” he said.

The ELN and the government of Gustavo Petro began negotiations for a peace agreement Nov. 21. The first round was held in Venezuela and ended Dec. 12. The Catholic Church is attending the peace talks with the ongoing role of “accompanying” the process along with other countries as guarantors.

Also, the Colombian government announced Dec. 16 that it is willing to begin a process of rapprochement with the RPS Armed Forces-Cartel del Norte and the Mexican Revolutionary Forces.

  • Teresa Giudice offers Todd and Julie Chrisley guidance prior to their prison terms

Less than a month prior to the beginning of their respective prison terms, Teresa Giudice advised Todd and Julie Chrisley to “stay strong.”

When asked by a TMZ paparazzi on Tuesday whether she had any advice for the “Chrisley Knows Best” cast as they prepare to surrender, the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” actress said that “manifesting” helped her get through her own 11-month prison sentence in 2015.

The 50-year-old told them to “hold firm for their families and manifest in prison what they desire when they are released… and to be courageous for their children.”

Giudice, who was also convicted of fraud along with her ex-husband Joe Giudice, continued, “It will be really difficult, but they must make the best of it… However, they must maintain contact with their children and make it work.”

According to Giudice, her children’s “weekly” visits played a significant part in maintaining family ties during her time in prison.

“The problem is that my children were young… dependent on their schedule, however, at least once a month,” she advised.

And when their families aren’t present to cheer them up, the Bravolebrity advised them to find alternative ways to pass the time, such as working out, manifesting, practicing yoga, or even writing a book.

While Todd was sentenced to 12 years in jail and his wife was sentenced to 7 years in prison, according to their daughter Lindsie, the couple is already “living every day like it’s [their] last.”

The pair, who were convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion in June, are also “spending time with their Nashville-based children” and “engaging in therapy and biblical studies.”

In June, Todd, 53, and Julie, 49, were found guilty of conspiring to defraud banks of almost $30 million through bogus loans.

Additionally, they filed fraudulent credit reports and bank records when attempting to rent a home.

Although they filed an appeal of their judgment and maintained their innocence, they will soon travel to Florida to serve out their sentences.

We will always provide you with the winning numbers, so while you wait, bookmark this page so you can easily find the daily lotto result when its out.

    Today’s lotto winning numbers

    How to play daily lotto

When buying daily lotto tickets online, there might be an additional charge. Always check the terms and conditions.

Winners are to note that if numbers published are different from the number in the original national lottery database, the number in the national lottery database will prevail.

Tips on How to Win the Lottery

Here are nine useful suggestions for increasing your lottery winnings chances

Buy more tickets. But you’ll spend more money and you may still not win any of them. But at least 10 chances of winning is obviously greater than just 1 chance by 10. And what you can be certain of is that if any of them wins, you’ll recover your money back.

Form a lottery syndicate or group where you all play as one. This means you get more tickets and lottery numbers which will result to a higher chances of winning. Imagine having a group of 100 people who buy 10 tickets each, that’s 1000 tickets, 1000 chances of winning. BUT becareful with this idea, as people are not trust worthy. The eventual winner of the lottery may betray all of you. So only join groups with people you can trust with your life. And also if you win, don’t betray others.

Don’t choose consecutive numbers. For example, suppose you’re playing a lottery with five winning numbers and you have till number 55 to choose from. The total number must be between 104 and 176. According to studies, approximately 70% of lottery winnings fall into this category.

Don’t choose a number that falls in the same number group or ending with a similar digit. Although, there is a possibility that you may win, but the probability is very low.

Look for more unpopular games played at odd times. Don’t go for lottery games that always have a winner try to explore other unpopular games. Most likely, people will all go to that lottery game, so your chance of winning is lesser. Go to the less popular, with lesser game player, so your odd of winning is higher.

Some people tend to play lotto based from the numbers of their birthday, or the birthday of a family member. If this happens, you will usually get more numbers from 1 to 31, as this corresponds to the days in the calendar method. If you choose numbers above 31, this may not increase your chance of winning but it can boost your probability of not sharing the prize with anyone.

Keep in mind that every number in the lottery has an equal probability of being chosen as the winning number. There is no software that could predict the exact winning number. But you can increase your chance of not splitting the jackpot price if you use the not so common number.

Play the right games. There are many kinds of lottery games that you could play. If you join the national lottery draw, there is much broader number pool as compared with a local or state lottery. In a local lottery, the odd of winning is higher compared with a nationwide lottery.

  • Here are characteristics that most people desire in their ideal kitchen

45% of Americans, according to a recent survey, spend more money on their kitchens than any other area in the house.

72% of 2,000 US adults with an annual family income of at least $150,000 believed their kitchen is “priceless” compared to other rooms, and 82% have an ideal “dream kitchen” they hope to have one day.

The most desired elements of a fantasy kitchen renovation are all related to the desire for more space: an extra-large refrigerator (50%), increased counter space (50%), additional cupboard space (48%) and additional shelf space (45%).

When asked to choose the most beloved kitchen gear or appliance, 26% of respondents named the renowned cast iron skillet, followed by stainless steel hand tools (16%) and baking sheets (11%).

The study, commissioned by Signature Kitchen Suite and conducted by OnePoll, revealed that individuals have a deep attachment to their kitchens, with many experiencing emotions of contentment (66%), joy (49%) and productivity (47%) when in the “heart of the home.”

Kitchen renovations might cost the majority of homeowners $74,000.

Nearly half (45%) of respondents stated they only cook using high-end equipment, saying it produces superior meals. Four in five have used smart technology in the kitchen to aid in cooking, and forty percent say they need a specific kitchen tool for every dish they prepare.

According to Nicholas Ritchie, Executive Chef at Signature Kitchen Suite, there is a correlation between the amount of effort individuals put into their kitchens and the result being a source of pride and satisfaction — and, of course, taste. “Because of this, it is essential to design a fantasy kitchen that is attractive and energizing.”

    Refrigerators had the highest importance.

The survey also indicated that successful cooking requires years of skill and an acceptance of a certain degree of kitchen disorder.

For half of the population, cooking is typically frenzied, rapid, and imprecise. 37% of respondents favor a slow, systematic approach.

In addition, the typical respondent stated that they have been cooking alone at home for nine years, but it took them five years to feel confident in the kitchen.

Most people prefer to prepare elaborate meals.

Many attributed their acquired cooking talents to themselves (55 percent), their parents (55 percent), or YouTube (30 percent).

The average respondent prepares 10 meals each week at home, and two out of three (67%) have a liking for making complex dishes.

“As more individuals have spent more time at home in recent years, homeowners have gained comfort and confidence in the kitchen,” Ritchie concluded. “Now is the moment for them to capitalize on their newfound confidence and surround themselves with cutting-edge tools and technology to ensure that their meals are prepared to the highest standard imaginable.”

In many ways, a well-equipped kitchen is beneficial.

  • University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Admission List for the Diploma in Law

The Republican Party has warned Illinois lawmakers of a potential crime wave if the state becomes the first to eliminate cash bail for all felonies on January 1st, meaning thousands of prisoners would be released onto the streets.

The 57-year-old Democratic governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, signed the SAFE-T Act into law on December 6; it will take effect on January 1.

Illinois joins states such as New York, New Jersey, California, and others, who have enacted various bail changes in recent years and have experienced a rise in crime, in instituting such reforms.

In an op-ed published by the Chicago Tribune in September, 61-year-old Republican State Representative Jim Durkin argued that the elimination of cash bail would reduce public safety and “allow drug cartels free reign in Illinois.”

According to ABC News, Durkin stated recently, “We have a responsibility under the Constitution as legislators to keep people secure.” There are certain individuals who pose a threat to society and should be held until trial. Slow your pace. Do not adopt this progressive national strategy.

Durkin and other legislators are pushing swiftly to change the statute once more before its implementation. The removal of cash bail is still inscribed into law notwithstanding the multiple changes signed by the governor.

The 57-year-old Democratic governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, on December 6 signed into law the SAFE-T Act, which would eliminate cash bail beginning January 1.

Jim Durkin, a 61-year-old state representative from the Republican party, has been vocal about his disapproval of the new statute. Durkin argues that the repeal will reduce public safety and “allow cartels full reign in Illinois.”

As of December 11, 2022, a total of 62,958 crimes had been committed in Chicago, a 41 percent increase over the same period in 2021.

Theft, robbery, and burglary have all increased by 15, 16, and 58 percent, respectively, compared to the same time last year.

According to the SAFE-T Act, the new law will only enable alleged criminals to be kept prior to trial if the court can determine the suspect poses a “specific, real and present threat to a person” or has a high likelihood of flight.

Former State’s Attorney Patrick Windhorst stated that a substantial number of criminals would be released practically immediately or within a few days.

In Illinois, violent offenses with cash bail

When the SAFE-T Act goes into effect on January 1, Illinois will be the first state to totally eliminate cash bail.

There are plans to release a large number of violent offenders without the requirement of posting cash bail.

In Illinois, the following serious offenses are presently eligible for cash bail:

According to the Illinois SAFE-T Act, violent crimes, burglary, robbery, arson, abduction, nearly all drug offenses, DUI offenses, and even DUI offenses involving a fatality do not qualify for incarceration.

This will result in a large number of criminals being immediately or within a few days released.

Johnson County Sheriff Pete Sopczak concurred with Windhorst, stating, “Anyone sitting in jail right now on outstanding charges will be released.”

Cook County Jail, which has held notable convicts such as John Wayne Gacy and was the subject of the reality television series 60 Days In, mostly houses pre-trial detainees who may be affected by the new law.

It is unknown how many pre-trial detainees could be released from Cook County. DailyMail.com contacted the Illinois Department of Corrections and Cook County Jail for comment.

Despite the reputation of the jail and the enormous number of probable releases in the following days, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, who has been on the job for 16 years, stated that’part of [the bail reform] is really good; some of [it] is not good.’

However, he supports the release of those convicted of minor offenses, particularly those unable to post bond.

According to ABC News, he stated, “I had approximately 11,000 people in detention when I became sheriff, and all of them were extremely destitute.” ‘The offense was inconsequential, but they lacked $100. They thus sat there. I exclaimed, ‘We must stop this!’

Dart asserts that Cook County introduced bail modifications five years ago, and that this has made the system more viable, but not ideal. He told ABC News, for instance, that criminals are committing an increasing number of new crimes while under home monitoring.

However, he wants legislators to understand that it is difficult to improve the system and that the state must “get it right.”

Because [if] you make a mistake, there will be a response, and others will say: “Witness what transpired? We cannot do this given what transpired there “‘

As of December 11, 2022, there have been 62,958 crimes committed in Chicago, an increase of 41 percent. Theft, robbery, and burglary have all increased by 15, 16, and 58 percent, respectively, compared to the same time last year.

State courts have utilized financial bail to encourage defendants to appear in court and complete legal proceedings for decades. The purpose of cash bail is to assist the defendant in covering these costs.

However, some have stated that the cash bail system is frequently racist and discriminates against the poor. According to the Center for American Progress Action Fund, African Americans are often assigned a bail amount that is nearly four percent greater than their white counterparts, resulting in a cost that is typically $7,000 higher.

Lavette Mayes, a 52-year-old black woman from Chicago, was imprisoned in Cook County Jail for an extended period of time in 2015 because she was unable to post her $250,000 bail following a fight with her mother-in-law that resulted in their hospitalization.

ABC News quoted her as saying, “They pounded the gavel and informed me that my bond was set at $250,000, plus $25,000 to walk.”

It was stunning because I had no criminal history, and I could not comprehend it.

The new rule could result in the release of tens of thousands of prisoners who are now incarcerated owing to their inability to pay monetary bail. Cook County, which mostly detains defendants awaiting trial, is one of the country’s most notorious jails, with many inmates being released back into the community.

Many Illinois residents and legislators are concerned that the state, particularly Chicago, would experience an increase in crime, similar to what other major cities, such as New York City, have experienced.

Mayes spent over fourteen months in jail before she was able to negotiate a more inexpensive bond and be freed with home monitoring.

“My business was lost. I was displaced. I lost my vehicles, my means of movement. I lost everything throughout my 571-day incarceration while awaiting trial,’ she added.

Some Chicago residents are concerned about the imminent return of potentially dangerous persons to the streets, despite cases like Mayes, which the law is primarily intended to assist.

Natalia Dagenhart, a Ukrainian immigrant who resides in the affluent Chicago suburb of Naperville, told ABC News, ‘It’s acceptable until it affects you and your family, or you directly.’

She, too, is concerned that the rate of crime will increase, and she already feels less secure.

She told ABC News, “I no longer even visit Chicago.”

    Nationwide bail reforms

In recent years, a number of states have been reforming their bail rules, and the issue loomed large in the 2018 midterm elections.

Here is a breakdown of the ways in which several states have already began modifying their bail laws.

    California

In March 2021, California amended its constitution to prohibit judges from setting bail at an amount that individuals cannot afford.

    Nebraska

It appears no adjustments have been enacted since Nebraska’s 2021 proposal to stop the practice entirely.

    Indiana

The state in the Midwestern United States placed restrictions on the individuals who can be released on bail through the programs of nonprofit bail bond organizations. No longer may violent criminals be bailed out by organizations.

    Manhattan

The Empire State has faced a great deal of criticism for its bail regulations, particularly in New York City, where an uprising of criminals were routinely released to the streets in order to inflict further harm.

Nonviolent offenders are not eligible for bond under New York’s weak bail regulations.

    Kentucky

Numerous reform proposals have been made, but no new legislation has been introduced in the southern state.

    Pennsylvania

Similar to Illinois, the state has largely abandoned the practice unless a judge can establish that the offender is a flight risk or has a history of criminal activity. However, it is rumored that the state intends to pull it back.

    Alaska

It is now based on a risk assessment, similar to New Jersey. A high score allows the courts to issue a bail bond, while a low score permits defendants to be freed on their own recognizance.
