Fikile Mbalula, the ANC’s new secretary-general, has stated that the 55th National Conference will be postponed to January 5, 2023, two days prior to the party’s January 8th declaration.

Mbalula stated that next year’s resumption of the conference, which was scheduled to finish on Tuesday, will be hybrid and that his office will convey the relevant details in due time.

The commission reports and declaration procedures would be completed at that time. After the appointment of the top seven NEC members on Monday, the party was anticipated to reveal the newly elected NEC members. However, Mbalula stated that delegations must depart.

“Do not leave today without voting,” he instructed.

Friday marked the beginning of the conference at the Nasrec Expo Centre. So far, the majority of the issues on the agenda have been addressed, including the unveiling of the ANC’s top seven.

The nation was stunned when President Cyril Ramaphosa was re-elected, defeating former health minister Zweli Mkhize, who was also fighting for the role of party president.

Ramaphosa received 2,476 votes out of the total number of votes cast, while Mkhize garnered 1,897. None of KwaZulu-chosen Natal’s candidates made it to the top seven of the party’s list of favored candidates.

Despite the fact that the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal had previously stated that it would support Mkhize, delegates acknowledged on Monday that they had instead voted for Ramaphosa.

It was rumored that the ANC will emerge from the meeting more divided than ever. However, delegates from KwaZulu-Natal who voted for Ramaphosa said they believe in party unity, regeneration, and transformation. Monday, they affirmed to Sunday World that the conference was a success.

Siphile Mdaka, regional chairwoman of the Nokuhamba Nyawo region in KwaZulu-Natal, stated, “This is the national conference of the ANC; of course, we came here with leadership preferences in mind, but we also came with a particular stance on ANC policies and procedures. The chosen leadership is responsible for implementing the ANC’s agreed-upon policies and ensuring that they nurture the organization’s unity, which includes party revitalization.

“It is crucial for the ANC to appeal to the general populace so that we can engage them and return the state’s power, since the ANC uses state power to fulfill the desires of our people. We are optimistic that the elected leadership will be able to achieve what is necessary to win the national election in 2024.”

In 2022, South African short-term insurers reported a 60% rise in claims for property damage caused by power spikes as a result of load shedding.

Some insurance companies have recently begun requiring the installation of a Surge Protection Device (SPD) or else they will not cover damage caused by a power surge.

Since then, Dr. Andrew Dickson, Engineering Executive of CBI-electric low voltage, has advised consumers to review the fine print of their policies to determine if this applies to them.

“If consumers don’t check their policies to see if this applies to them, they could be in for a rude and expensive surprise should a power surge strike their home,” Dr. Dickson added.

He stated that when the electricity is turned back on at a substation following load shedding, it can send a voltage pulse of several thousand volts through the network.

“The issue is that the typical home operates on 230 Volts, so when the lights come back on, all electrical things, including your lights and appliances, may experience an unexpected voltage spike, followed by a power surge from the returning main supply,” he explained.

This only lasts a microsecond, yet it is long enough to induce a point of failure in the device, which can result in substantial damage.

Dr. Dickson also discussed the benefits of installing SPDs in homes and how it can prevent homeowners from having to replace damaged stuff.

SPDs can minimize high peak voltages by directing excess electricity away from the distribution board, despite the fact that purchasing them may be a burden. Plus, they are significantly less expensive than purchasing a new television, refrigerator, or gate motor.”

In addition, he outlined the purposes of several types of SPDs and noted that insurance companies typically provide guidance regarding the sort of SPD you should employ.

“Different SPDs are capable of absorbing varying quantities of energy. If these levels are surpassed, the device may be compromised; therefore, all SPDs are equipped with an indication that tells the user if the device is operable or has reached the end of its useful life.

To ensure that homeowners may file a claim if a power surge causes property damage, Dr. Dickson recommends that they adhere to the SPD installation criteria outlined in their insurance policy.

Dr. Dickson stated, “While SPDs are risk mitigation measures, they will eventually fail and must be examined regularly, especially in light of Eskom’s announcement that ‘protracted load shedding’ will continue for the foreseeable future.”

During loadshedding, Eskom instructed Onrusriver/Vermont residents to turn off stoves, geysers, pool pumps, and all other electrical equipment. Eskom advised consumers to wait 30 minutes before turning on stoves, geysers, and pool pumps to prevent probable power outages.

“Cold load pickup occurs when a distribution circuit is re-energized after a lengthy outage and the current is strong enough to generate a quick overcurrent that could cause the electricity supply to trip,” the utility company explained.

After three years portraying Prince Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital, Marcus Coloma is leaving Port Charles, and it doesn’t seem like it was an easy departure.

After learning he was being written out of the soap opera, the actor reportedly rejected to film his final scenes. The revelation was first reported by Daytime Confidential. The show confirmed his departure to Soap Opera Digest even further.

“Marcus Coloma will no longer play Nikolas Cassadine,” they announced of the actor who joined the cast in 2019. His final airing will occur at the end of January.

It is yet unknown whether General Hospital will replace Coloma with another actor or simply eliminate the character. ABC has been contacted by Decider for comment.

Since he has been a mainstay since the 1990s, the elimination of the fan-favorite would be even more unexpected.

Tyler Christopher originated the role of Nikolas, the grandson of Helena Cassadine (portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1980s), in 1996. He left the show in 1999, but returned in 2003 and remained until 2016. Coltin Scott from 1999 to 2003, Chris Beetem in 2005, and Nick Stabile in 2016 have also portrayed Nikolas.

Fans of the show are disappointed that Coloma is leaving. Some even complimented the actor for declining to supposedly record his final scenes.

Daytime Confidential reports that Anthony “Tony” Morina will no longer be co-executive producing The Young and the Restless. According to the report, Morina has been “let go” by CBS, and head writer Josh Griffith will serve as the only showrunner moving forward.

Since 2007, Morina has worked on the long-running soap opera as a producer, supervising producer, and executive producer.

When contacted by Decider for comment, representatives for CBS and The Young and the Restless did not answer quickly.

In 2021, Morina was accused of sexual harassment for reportedly making approaches towards actor Briana Thomas during her 2018 and 2019 appearances on the soap drama.

Thomas, according to Variety, filed a lawsuit against Sony Pictures Television (the soap opera’s producer) and CBS Studios, alleging that Morina would behave improperly towards her.

She claimed he frequently invaded her personal space and complimented her attractiveness. She also claimed he told her she could “really be somebody” on the series and offered her special lessons.

Thomas added that he once attempted to convince her to remove her cover-up so he could see her in a bikini while filming a poolside scene.

According to Variety, Morina referred to sexual harassment training as “bullshit” and blamed “bitches” who “had their panties in a bunch” and “couldn’t take a compliment.” Thomas asserts that she was ultimately sacked from the show.

The selection of a jury has been scheduled for March 2023, citing Soap Opera Network.

“After 16 years, it’s time to go on to other things,” Morina told SoapHub, seemingly dismissing any connection between the charges and his resignation.

He stated, “I’m most pleased that COVID has kept the program continuing for the past two and a half years since we resumed production following the initial shutdown.”

Captain Lee is reversing course and returning to Below Deck after announcing his departure from the Bravo series. On Monday’s (Dec. 19) episode, it was revealed that the reality star will return to the show later this season, following a health-related absence.

While Lee took some time off to repair the nerve damage that was causing him mobility problems, he told the crew that he would be back. Lee reportedly informed Fraser Olender, Ross McHarg, Hayley De Sola Pinto, Rachel Hargrove, Alissa Humber, Camilla Lamb, Luis Antonio “Tony” Duarte, Katie Glaser, and Ben Willoughby in a speech that he needed to resign.

Nonetheless, he stated that the “plane ticket home” he purchased is “round trip,” adding, “I’m going to return to the United States, get everything sorted out, and as soon as I do, I’ll be on the first jet back here and tell whoever’s on board to get the f— off my boat.”

The skipper revealed in a confessional that he felt like a “burden” to the crew, adding, “That pierces me to the core. It is cruel. I value doing the right thing regardless of how difficult it may be. This is the message I preach to the crew. If I’m not going to do it myself, I have no right to tell someone else to do it.”

Lee won’t be gone for very long. He told his admirers, “I will work hard. I shall endure the suffering. I will return to complete what I have started.”

In an interview with People, Lee revealed that he attended physical therapy up to six times per week to assist with his nerve troubles.

And with nerve injury, this simply does not occur. So I’d get frustrated.
