Paraglider rescues woman in Florida canal

A paraglider flying through Florida in the early morning made an emergency landing after noticing a woman clinging to her flooded automobile in a canal.

Christiano Piquet, 45, spotted something in the water at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning in southwest Miami-Dade.

DailyMail.com spoke with Piquet, who said he was in the air for a regular pre-church trip with a friend when the incident occurred.

Piquet says in an Instagram video: “I’m flying with my friend on Sunday morning before church, as we always do.”

The man was able to record the entire rescue using his GoPro, which he brought along on his trip.

When he first suspected something was off, the two were flying through the area on a route that, according to him, was not customary.

Piquet stated that he turned himself and his camera to get a closer look at the splashing he observed in a canal.

The man from Miami speculated that it might be alligators or crocodiles, common denizens of Florida’s diverse waters.

Unexpectedly, he zoomed in and spotted a submerged vehicle followed by a woman shouting loudly.

“I picture a woman desperately clinging to life,” he writes.

He then inserted a little clip of the woman pleading for assistance.

Upon discovering the discovery, Piquet performed an emergency landing and sprung into action immediately.

The man detached himself from his hang glider and raced towards the woman.

According to Piquet, his friend also made an emergency landing and was injured as a result.

They rushed to the location where the woman was spotted and worked swiftly to signal a nearby neighbor for assistance.

‘Do you need help?’ Piquet questioned the woman upon his arrival to the site.

The woman responded, “Oh, my God, I fell with my car inside!”

Piquet managed to summon assistance from a neighboring neighbor.

The two men summoned the neighbor and recorded him assisting in her rescue.

“Therefore, we threw her a rope, and she was free and living,” Piquet explained in an interview with WSVN.

As the neighbor pulled the woman, she constantly yelled in agony.

After rescuing the victim and getting her to safety, we contacted 911.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue units responded to the accident.

Piquet stated, “They came, and they provided her with the necessary assistance.”

The woman was transferred to a local hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unknown how the woman ended up in the canal.

The police are examining the crash’s cause.

Likewise, her status is unknown at this moment.

Monday he remarked, “I hope she’s okay.”

DailyMail.com reached out to the Miami-Dade Police Department for additional information but did not receive a reply prior to publishing.

Despite the unanswered questions, the man from Florida told DailyMail.com that he was just happy he was able to identify her and begin the rescue operation.

“God used me to save that woman,” Piquet remarked, expressing gratitude for his being in the vicinity.

He said, “It was the perfect place at the right moment.”

After pulling the woman from the canal, Piquet comments to his friend in the video, “Hey, we saved this lady’s life today.”

The video, which was posted on Sunday, has garnered hundreds of comments from people calling him a lifesaver and a hero, a word he is unable to use.

Monday, Piquet stated, “I am not declaring myself a hero.”
