As Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russia’s invasion, two Polish people were slain in an attack four miles from the Ukrainian border in the country’s east.

Authorities are still investigating the origin of the missile, but early signs point to a Ukrainian air defence system attempting to offset the Russian assault – a claim that Ukraine has disputed.

As evidence that Poland is taking no chances in the wake of the tragic attack, footage released by the government on Thursday showed a passenger jet carrying the Polish national football team being escorted by two F-16 fighter jets.

Yesterday, the national team’s Twitter account announced, “We were escorted to the southern border of Poland by F16 planes!”

“Many thanks and regards to the pilots!”
