Today, King Charles III assumed Prince Harry’s former position as Captain General of the Royal Marines, a day after the Duke of Sussex released his “provocative” new biography.
Following Megxit in 2020, Harry was allegedly disappointed to lose his position as ceremonial head of the Commando regiment. In December 2017, the Queen appointed him as successor to Prince Philip.
The announcement was made just one day after the Duke of Sussex debuted his ‘provocative’ new autobiography. The contentious new book will be titled Spare, which is a loaded reference to the author’s position as the younger brother of the heir apparent.
Last night, a spokeswoman for the King declined to comment on the book. It is believed that the Royal Household has already been informed that the 416-page, £28 book is ‘critical of everyone and everything’ and that they are ‘dreading’ its publication.
In a special greeting to the Royal Marines on the occasion of their 358th anniversary, the King stated, ‘It gives me the greatest pleasure to assume the position of your Captain General.
“I am incredibly honored to follow in the footsteps of so many family members over the past three and a half centuries, each of whom held this position with a profound sense of respect.
The Royal Marines have an illustrious and unmatched history on land and at sea. I am tremendously inspired by your courage, tenacity, self-discipline, and extraordinary ability to withstand in the worst situations.
“I am incredibly privileged to join the Corps Family and look forward to seeing many of you in the near future.
“In the interim, please accept my warmest and most sincere greetings for a very happy 358th birthday. Per Mare, Per Terram.’
