Researchers claim the average adult owns 19 phones and loses one a year

Some of us cannot wait to update to the newest mobile phone model. Others will gladly hold on to theirs till it dies or they break it.

Whether they are on a pay-as-you-go plan or a contract, it looks that the average adult will use 19 phones over the course of their lifetime.

Also, according to researchers, we lose our gadget nearly once a year on average, which equates to more than 50 times as adults, although many of us could think the number is higher.

67% of respondents stated that they have changed a phone that was still functional, while 26% have just taken advantage of a free update.

A survey of 2,000 mobile phone owners revealed that the average person purchases a new gadget every three years and four months, or 19 devices over the average UK adult lifespan of 63 years. This does not account for the phones that individuals had as youngsters.

The average user has two mobile devices stashed in drawers, while 13% have four or more.

It was also discovered that only 29% had recycled their old phone. 41% of respondents admitted they do not know what to do with obsolete equipment. The survey also revealed that 48% will save old devices “in case of an emergency,” while 34% will donate them to relatives and friends.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents indicated that they have replaced a functional phone. 26% have merely taken advantage of a complimentary upgrade. Despite 46% believing that it is simple to recycle an old mobile phone, 47% do not know how to do so, according to research by OnePoll.

Only 28% of respondents who own a mobile phone have purchased a pre-owned device.

Lars Silberbauer of HMD Global, which manufactures Nokia phones and commissioned the study to coincide with the introduction of its phone subscription service, stated, “Smartphones contribute significantly to e-waste. By ensuring that electronic equipment are recycled, we can keep them out of landfills.
